Here are possible causes for the error in you log - Track following error - from Nero:
Why do I get a 'Track following error' message?
The "Track following error" message is a hardware error. It can be caused by the following:
    * Poor media - Try more than one brand of CD-R media to rule this out as cause.
    * Poor power - The electric power supply of your recorder could be fluctuating. If you have an internal recorder, try a different power connector and make sure it's not being shared by any other devices. If you have an external recorder, remove it from the external chassis, if you can, and connect it on your system as an internal recorder. If this resolves your issue, you need to replace or service the power source in your external chassis.
    * Optical head is dirty or needs alignment - Please contact your recorder manufacturer to service your unit.

Let's start with which brand of CD's you're using. Hopefully that's the cause. Which ones are you using?
The other thing is your drive isn't recognizing them. Usually the manufacturer and id are in the log.
A firmware update can sometimes help but from what I can find not a whole lot of support on this drive. Looks like Dell and HP use them.

    Thanx for your replay...

I use FujiFilm discs. I have never had a problem with them before... like i said, everything used to work fine and just a couple of days ago, this started happening....

I tried swaping the power supply a couple of times....no avail....

    any other help?

I'd still try switching the brand of discs. Your drive's not recognizing them. For the fuji look for made in Japan. Or try some made in Japan Maxell.
You can also try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner. I'd also check how much dust is in the tower & fans.
A firmware update if there is one may do the trick too but since I can't find one you may have to contact the pc's manufacturer to see if one is available.

Well it's not sounding to promising. The dell support forum had a lot of complaints about it. I'd still try running a lens cleaner and clean up any dust.
If all fails hopefully this is still under warranty. Don't know if you have a dell or not but if you do here's a # that might work for their tech support: 1-800-232-8544.
Let us know how it turns out.

Only five weeks old? Yeah I'd be pissed. You've used different type of discs - but they may say that the brand of discs your using is the cause. Check w/ them on a firmware update and where to get them in the future. Finding web support on this drive ain't easy.
The one of the errors you got (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR) makes me think it more of a hardware problem also since you have tried the other suggestions.
One other thing to try - have you tried to burn cd's with any other software besides Nero?

If I haven't already, I wanted to thank you for all of your replies.... i appreciate it very much!

Yes, I have also used Roxio (or Sonic) or whatever was on the computer when I got it. I currently have Nero 7 Premium. I thought that might be the problem so I downgraded to Nero 6 and that gave me the same results......

yeah, i find it obsurd that there are no firmware updates or anything for this drive........JUNK!

    Hey not a problem!
Roxio and Nero can conflict but I don't see any of the drivers in your log that will usually cause this.
You could try uninstalling Sonic/Roxio and running the clean tool to remove all traces. Just as an FYI on my latop I have both Sonic and Nero (none of the drivers that conflict either according to my nero log) and I dont have a problem burning cd's w/ Nero or the occasionally dvd on it either.
Keep us posted though - I'm very curious of the outcome! (hopefully good)

I'm thinking I would at least for a firmware update or where to find support for it. That may take care of the problem. Your drive doesn't even recoginze them. The manufacturer info is usually in the log.
Were you not able to burns DVD's b/4? Oh and what other brand of cd's did you try?
I forgot to give you the link to the zapper to remove all traces of Roxio/Sonic.

uffffffff.....okay, just got off the phone with Dell (with that number that is listed above). After opening the chassis and unplugging and plugging the wires in the back of the drive, the lady said that "my drive wasn't showing up in the BIOS"?!??! sorry, not too good at this stuff....anyways, she said that they will replace the drive....i requested that they NOT send me the same drive as i have been seeing a lot of people have the same problems with this drive...

that's the thing. THERE IS NO FIRMWARE UPDATES FOR THIS DRIVE! nothing! No support either...

i still have Roxio/Sonic installed. Should I get rid of those?

i was using FujiFilm discs. I also tried Memorex, Imation. Yes, i was always able to burn DVDs, just not CDs. I tried Nero 7, Nero 6, and even that Roxio Sonic CD burning program that my Dell had installed.

LOL - take the new drive and run!! I would try and see what they will replace with it and check it out and you can post back the make and model if you like. Hopefully it will be a drive that will have support. that's a little more accessible. Firmware helps the drive w/ read/write strategies of media esp. the newer stuff.
While you wait for the new drive can't hurt uninstalling Roxio and running the clean tool and see if it helps.
The brands your using well have given me problems. Though not coaster after coaster. I use Made in Japan Fuji or Maxells for cd's. For DVD's I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Well firmware is up to date, your using good media and burn speed.
Try freeing up some memory. Shut down any unnessary processes.
Take the burn speed down to 4x and see if that helps.

This error corresponds w/ the error you get from ImgBurn - Incompatible Format - I guess Nero just says it a little differently.
Nero, Imgburn & Decrypter are using XP's aspi interface SPTI - I'm not sure which one Copy To DVD uses. Check Nero Toolkit - InfoTool - ASPI tab and is if it shows an aspi as being corrupted (if you have any installed).
    Here's your error code (023005):
    http://www.cdr-zone.com/articles/atapi_error_codes_page_1.html

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks alot..binkie7..I've reinstaled ASPI,hopefully this will correct the problem..Just can't figure how from 1 burn to the next, how this all of a sudden disappears off the computer [ghost in the machine] I Guess!!

Not usually neccesary unless a program requires one. Nero comes with one but if your running XP it uses XP's spti interface.
I have no other ones installed either on any of my pc's - no need. But if one was installed you can see if it's corrupted usually in Nero InfoTool.

Try a burn and let us know how it goes!
