Hello all, Although I am a newbie, I have an interesting post if anyone out there can help with, and, do know a fair bit on this sort of stuff (obviously not enough for this one though !!) Anyhow, my specs: Running Vista Ultimate, Nero 8.1.1.0b, DVDShrink 3.2.15 and AnyDVD (Oct latest & not beta version) to do my backups. Until a week ago, Nero 8.1.1.0 was being used to burn back the DVD files from HDD to DVD-R. I have done at least 30 burns using Nero 8 and all have been successful using the programz above. Then, for some strange reason (after the October hotfix/updates in Vista) and an update of Nero to 8.1.2.0 close to the same time, DVDShrink would do its' job, finish its' coding and then Nero (in the background) would do the burn and all looks fine. It gets to the end and states that it completes successfully. The DVD ejects and I put it into my DVD player - starts reading and does nothing thereafter. Then I put it into my Blu-ray player - it reads for 20 seconds and then comes up with 'Unsupported disc'. What the hell !!!??!! Put the discs into the PC - AND - they actually work without an error in playback !! I didn't think of posting this in DVDShrink, as I honestly don't think it's Shrink doing it. DVDShrink is set to DVD-Rom book type, etc, in fact no setting in Shrink has changed at all. I've made many coasters and have come to these deductions; a): MS have come up with an evil way to disguise a Digital Rights Management fix for Vista and called it a 'Security Update' (maybe/possibly?) Well, it could be because when I backup a home made DVD in the old way with Shrink/Nero, surprise surprise - it plays in the stand alone DVD players?? Go figure eh? Could it be that as soon as Vista recognises a 'Decrypt' with AnyDVD that it triggers a mechanism to kill the burn (even though it burns to the end without error)?? Hmmm..... b): I unistalled 8.1.2.0 and re-installed 8.1.1.0b. Waste of time, made a few more coasters for my neighbour now too!! BUT I have read that you can burn an IMG file with DVDShrink and burn it back with Nero Imgburn (Nero Express) and that would work. WELL ..... This method did work with Nero 8. The DVD played back in both players !! This now leads me to believe that it might not be a MS Vista DRM sneaky October Security disguised evil plot to disable a PC !! Need help my esteemed DVDphiles !! How can it be that a traditional set to burn and forget method in DVDShrink stops working in Nero 8 (even after many successful burns in this version using this method) and creating an image file on hard drive to burn back to DVD through Nero 8 works perfectly? Doesn't make sense. Sorry, there are no error logs to produce, there were no errors! All burns, burn to the end in Shrink successfully 100% of the time. Before I forget, am using Ritek DVD-R; have been for the last year without any burn failures nor playback failure on stand alone DVD players - so please don't blame the media. Yes, I realise this post is huge, my apologies for this - rather than answering a potential great many questions from all, I thought the more info the better. Anyone else getting the same error? Should I be reverting right back to Nero 7? They are great programs, this is the 1st time I've had these difficulties. Burner is only 2 months old -> Pioneer 112D - I update my stuff quite regularly. And, the firmware is latest from Pioneer's website. Sorry, PC specs are: P4 3.2 GHZ, 2GB RAM, 512MB Nvidia 7600GTS, 320 GB HDD with plenty of space - so the grunt is there to do simple DVD burns !! Again, any help would be great !! DaTanK
Do what I did stayed with windows xp and Nero 6 sorry cant be any more help “just because its new doesn’t mean its any better”
Same basic thing happened to me as well. All was well and fine using dvdshrink and playing on standalone. After Nero 8 install no longer can do. Will try image burn suggestion
Hello Yes this is a problem w/ Nero not Shrink. What went amiss with Nero 8 I have no clue. If you do it in 2 steps - save to the hard drive instead of auto burning - then using Burning Rom or Express everything is fine. Closing this thread cause w/ have an open one on this issue w/ Nero & Shrink in the Nero forum http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/579894
