In Nero 7, there was an option to create animated menu thumbnail buttons.
Does anyone have a clue how to do this in Nero 8?

I finally found out where they hid this feature.

Open your project to the Edit menu.
    Single click a menu.
    Click the Customize tab.
Single click one of the Thumbnails.
    Open the Properties Button tab.
In Appearance, Display, select Display Title.
    Repeat for all other Thumbnails.

You can verify by clicking Next, Preview Animation.

Thank God I found this answer!

I was a little pissed off, because I had to buy Nero 8 to get the mpeg 4 decoder!

I was very happy with the nero 7 that came with my dvd burner!

One other thing I noticed though, is there were still more options like setting number of frames in the animated thumbnail, and from being able to choose witch frames, I experimented with what you said to do, it works, oh yea it works, but still not as good as it did in Nero 7

But I really just wanted to say Thank You!

    Try this:
In Edit, Single click a menu.
Click Customize, and expand the Properties tab.
    Scroll down to Animation, Duration.
Change it from 10 seconds to a value of your choice, like 60 seconds.

This will change the time for the whole menu to play before it rewinds including the thumbnails. I used this once to play a 2 minute song repeatedly.
Indirectly you could control how many frames it would display.
