Not sure what is happening...DVD-Rs burn fine as do CD-Rs and CD-RWs...Even had a couple of these very same DVD-RWs burn ok initially...But, now, none of the DVD-RWs will burn...Here's a log of what happens.

    Using Nero 7.5.9.0 and LiteOn 165H6S with latest firmware...Ridata 6X DVD-RW.

    Try:

[bold]Enable DMA mode for these devices;[/bold]

    CdRomPeripheral : Memorex 52MAXX 3252AJ QWS6 JRAID Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165H6SHS0E JRAID Port 4 ID 1 DMA: Off

    Here's a guide/s if needed
    http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm
    or
    http://www.burstcopy.com/dma/xp/

This part of the log indicates that the drive is unable to correctly recognize you disks even though your firmware is up to date. All zeros, but no disk ID numbers shown.

If enabling DMA for the two devices doesn't help, I suggest you try using Verbatim disks instead.

6X media are quite a bit different from 4X. Your drive is probably comfortable with 4X, but there are so few 6X versions available that the firmware settings for the 6X media do not exist in your drive. It would be better to stick with 4X.

Sucks...Didn't help...DMA mode was already selected for both the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels...Still no burning...Strange thing is that it did burn two of the DVD-RWs initially but now won't.

Changing the recording speed of 6X DVD-RW to 4X will not make it the same as a 4X disc. Its alloy composition is very different from 4X media, and your drive cannot get the correct write strategy at any speed. Sometimes the default strategy may work, producing poor and probably unstable recordings; but usually it won't. Look for 4X or 2X DVD-RW media.

The 6X may not be able to be recorded at 1X either. This is because the speed range of phase change rewritable media is much tighter than that for dye-based, write-once media. Many people like reusing DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs for time shifting the same way they used VHS cassettes in the past. Time shifting is always at 1X; so that is why 2X and 4X DVD-RW are still around. Most 6X and all 8X are unable to be written at 1X.

I was getting burn errors right at the end of the burning cycle and all it was the hard drive was to fragmented or to full. Just a possiblity. I was also geting CRC errors. Those were the result of dirty/scratched DVD's or my DVD-ROM isnt as good as my DVD-RW.
