    problem with DVD burners.

I use winXP-sp1 (only) + Nero 6.0136 (the newest) + IMG files to burn mounted from the slave drive 250GB + mounting using daemon. drive is are cleaned and defraged every week. Primary harddrive about 40GB and 50% full. Only burnt about 100DVD's

Now, when i first recieved my NEC2510 products i burned lots and lots of disks with no problem what-so-ever. until two weeks ago, where the lenght of time it takes to burn a single layer 4.7GB disk has gone up from (Nero predicted) 6mins30sec to the now over running 9min49sec.
I can actually hear what is happening the burners start up at 8xspeed then jump down to 4xspeed (@10%) for abotu 2mins then jump up again to 8speed.... carriers on then jumps down at about 54% then jumps up to 8xspeed (@63% when the time runs out)and finishes the rest of the durn off at 8speed.
what is going on please. i cant work it out.
When i first got the burners they would work to6mins regardless of whatever programs i ran in the back ground, but now anything that runs adds to the time.
I have updates my firmware as well. as one of the remadies. well it has managed to sort some of the time delay out, but its crept back to 9+mins from just over 8mins after the firmware update.

I cant work out whats going on. can someone help me.

Can you post a log from one of these writes, so we can see what is occuring?

Be sure to edit out your Nero 6 serial key before posting the log file.

    Hi mcalistar,

    Thanks for the comment. :)

    Hi Kepners,

The only thing I see that is causing a delay is that you did get a 'Queue again later' error, which means a command was issued to the Recorder, but it was busy. The next time the command was issued, the recorder was free and accepted the command.

What caused the drive to be busy? I can only guess at this point, but it does look like this message occured after the command to Change the BookType to DVD-ROM. The process did complete, but there may be a problem here that either we need to look into, or the Recorder MFG does with their firmware. Each Recorder has a slightly different process for changing the booktype.

You can also try a different brand of media, to see if that helps, as it may.

So you think its nothing to do with Nero or my system or anything like that?
its a very weird and strange thing.
i guess i will have to put up with it, unless you have any ideas.

The log file does not show anything that is going wrong, so I doubt it's your system.

It could be a firmware issue, or how we are implementing the Change BookType for that drive. We'll have to look at the drive from our end in Engineering and if it's a firmware issue report it to the MFG to address. If its our code, then we can address it.

So, it could be our software, it could be the firmware, or it could just be the media you are currently using.
