Hi there, I have Nero 6.6.0.18 I mainly do copy on the fly, but i wanted to make my own dvd with some existing files on my Hard drive. Problem is i dont have an icon on my nero that will allow me to do this, when i explained this to a freind, he seemed to think i have a dvd plug-in missing ? Should i also have another icon that allows me to make DVD's, if so how do i retrieve it. Heres the infotool, dont know if i was right to do this. Hi mgk Do you have an oem version of Nero (came w/ a dvd burner) or did you buy Nero? If it's an oem most don't come with all the apps that Nero offers. The one app you need to 'make my own dvd' is VisionExpress (nero 6). Here's a link for package 2 which has it, recode, showtime etc. link. You can try installing it and see what happens - the serial # is what tell Nero which apps you'll have access to.
Thanks binkie7, thats worked a treat, just what i wanted. My only problem my end quality is not so good. I had a 90 min mpeg which has turned out not as sharp as i had hoped on the disc and a lot of crackling with the audio speech ? any tips or can you post me to the right guide you have so many dont know what i am looking at. I usually burn to dvd+r. Thanks again.
You're welcome mgk! Glad the install of package 2 did the trick. How the quality of the original file? Do problems with it? Try changing the quality, encoding and audio settings In Vision. High quality will take a bit longer. (See pic below) You might want to save it to the hard drive instead of burning then checking the quality and audio. If all ok then use Express to add and burn the video_ts folder.

Hmmm on the audio option not showing up I'm guessing it's because the file was converted w/ another program 1st (?) Nero doesn't always do well with that. Do you still have the wmv file? If you do use that instead. I think converting to mpeg 1st w/ something else then using Vision might be why the audio is crackling and video is bad. I'd save it to the hard drive also to check it 1st. Oh and one other tip w/ Vision - right above 'disc info' you'll see a box next to 'create chapters automatically'. Check that box if you want to be able to hit 'next' on the players remote. edit: typos
Yes, your right again it was originally WMV, which explains why i cant see the audio setting and its crackling ....i will use the WMV file instead. Will definetly save to the drive so i can see it first, makes sense. And thanks for the tip, will try again in the morning and report back.
Ok - hopefully converting it straight from the wmv does the trick. Having the quality setting set to High may make it bigger then will fit on a single layer dvd (higher bit rate=larger file) so if you get a message saying something like too big for a single layer go ahead and change it back to automatic - using the wmv file you may just be fine with the settings set to automatic.
Yes thats worked binkie7. Many thanks the audio is great now. I just need advice to tinker around with the quality settings. When the file is saved to the hard drive because its too big (in the Quality setting) to burn on disc how can i retain the quality & burn to disc. I also did a burn to disc in the auto mode, and as expected suffered in the quality so can anything be done with the disc VOB files with Nero to reburn to a new disc and improve quality. Sorry for the questions. Any advice appreciated.
Not a problem on the questions mgk. Ok since you had a quality loss when using automatic here are 2 options. Use a dual layer disc to burn - that way you won't have to worry about compression and can keep the quality setting at high. Or save again to the hard drive with the high quality setting. Now use Recode (you should have this with the package 2 install) Recode will compress to fit on a single layer disc. You can check the advanced analysis - will encode in 2 pass to help with quality. I would also recommend saving this to the hard drive to check. This process will be a bit time consuming so dual layer may be the way to go. Also remember to delete the files when done - saving them to the hard drive will eat up space fast.
