The NERO utility, CD-DVD_Speed doesn't work with my newly purchased LG DVD burner: When a DVD is inserted in the drive, and the "Disk Info" tab is clicked, the disk information is properly displayed. The "Benchmark", and "ScanDisk" tabs also work properly. However, when the "DiskQuality" tab is clicked, the "Start" button is greyed out, so I can't initiate a diagnostic scan of the disk. The Disk Info fields are populated (Type, ID, Date, and Label) and the Start and End info is shown, so I know the disk is being read correctly. All this is true for both commercially produced DVDs and those I've burned myself. CD-DVD_Speed Version 4.7.5 came on the installation disk supplied with the DVD burner. In addition, I've downloaded Version 4.60 and Version 4.7.7.5. The problem is the same with all three versions. The burner is Model # GSA H55L. I've also tried Model # GSA H55N and had the same results. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Or is it just that these drives incompatible with this software? (It worked fine with my now expired Sony DVD burner) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It only works on certain drives - mine is an LG also, and it doesn't work. Allegedly it can be fixed by changing the registry .. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/cannot-error-scan-sh-s182m-212119/
Attar: Thanks for suggestion. Short results: didn't work. I followed the link you posted – They suggested editing the registry (shudder!) and removing the drive name from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality. I did so with no change in results. Then I removed the entire "Blocked" key. No help and the key was replaced! So I suspect that either (A) These drives are completely unable to scan or (B) there will have to be more extensive editing of the registry. (Again, shudder! But I do the back-up-the-registry thing so I probably wouldn't get in too much trouble.) Again, thanks, but . . .Any other thoughts? bob
I believe it has to do with the fact that some drives refuse to cooperate with the test and give erroneous results. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/3247#2871895
attar: Again, thanks. I suspect that there is a basic incompatibility here. I guess I'll take a look at a drive that is NOT in the "blocked" list. Of course, with SAMSUNG,TSST,HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR in the list, I guess this narrows my choices somewhat. Maybe I'll get another Sony. It lasted for a while before dying.
Yeah LG drives aren't compatible with the Quality Test function. I have 2 myself: A GSA-H20L and a GSA-4167B and neither of them can test disc quality.
I know it's raising the dead, but this is the register location showing those drives that are blocked.
Well, there seems to be a consensus that LG drives – at least these LG drives -- won't work well with the Nero_CD-DVD_Speed utility. So I returned one of the questionable drives and got a Sony DRU-840A burner. It seems to work just fine with the utility (there is no data for "jitter" though), and so for has done a dandy job of burning DVDs. I think I'll return the other LG and get a Lite-On drive. I understand that they're pretty good. Just a peripheral comment on Tech Support. I called LG and talked with a couple of technicians. Both tried to help (friendly, etc.) but were unable to do so. I am, of course, disappointed that LG would ship this utility with the drives if it wouldn't work properly. But at least these guys tried to help. I Emailed Nero and got the standard auto-response that they'd gotten my query. Then nothing. That was over a week ago. I guess they must be busy. I really appreciate the help you've come up with for my dumb little problem. Thanks again
I would say it's a totally useless application unless all you are interested in doing is quality scanning. There are always the create disc, benchmark features as well as booktyping utility.
hi, When I was surfing the net to find useful sites on CD duplication I found easymultimedia.co.uk which provides you good support and they are offering a 1000 with jewel cases for about £500. So just check site for more information. Hope this provides you sufficient help. Happy Holidays!
I am having a similar problem.. my cd burning is fine.. but dvd are limited to 2.4x and down. i've always burned at 4x with my nec drive and my lg when i got it over a month ago. actually.. when i first got the drive.. i only used it as a cd burner (with lightscribe) then my nec started acting up. so i used my lg a few times.. then my lg stated doing the same thing as my nec..(only burning at speeds 2.4x and slower)
Having an LG burner myself, HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSAH62N I was curious so I tried the Nero DVD speed test...all tests were performed without any problems.
Yours is a newer one Gwendolin, maybe their finally supported. But that would only apply to the very latest models I'm guessing as my GSA-H20L is from 2007 and doesn't work with DiscQuality test.
Well, I traded in my LG on a Sony. It works fine on the quality test. No Jitter data, though. I understand that most of these tests depend on drive firmware. (If the drive don't got it, I don't got it.) In my case, this isn't a problem -- mostly, I want to be sure that I don't send coasters out to my customers. Reburning a disk is a LOT cheaper than repairing a reputation. So far, I've been getting about 9-15 months from a burner before the fault/failure rate gets unacceptably high. The newer burners don't seem to be significantly better than the older ones. Cheaper, though, so the cost per burn is less. I'm thinking about getting a Lite-On burner. Any Consumer reports type information of them?
UncleBob you just saved me some money. I wanted to replace LGH10 with LGH55, but as I can see it does not work with Nero Speed also. I got Lite-On LS20A1S drive and I'm very happy with it. LG10 gave me some problem burning DVD-DL. Second layer was not playing properly on my DVD player (distortion in some sections). Used Lite-On, perfect burn. It works with Nero Speed also.
