Both of mine are set to CSEL, but that is a Dell and anytime I have put in a new drive I set it to this, as CSEL is peculiar to Dell. I have never had a problem burning or with DMA, if you look at the Device Mgr, it will say the Lite-on is the Master and the Plex the Slave.
Well I have not tried the new riskier firmware for Emachine is going to send me another drive, the 1635s they originally had in my system. I tried the burn with Verbatim and is said it failed at 4x. Now could it be that somewhere there is a setting off in the software? I will wait for the newer drive at this point, but just want to say. Thanks for all the tech help guys, you are all amazing and quite helpful For even though I have not resolved this issue, I did have a few bad burns that I know now I can overcome for good.
I got the new burner and everything is hunky dory with the better media, for I ordered Taiyo Yuden online here: http://supermediastore.com I also bought a spindle of Verbatim locally. So now I have about a 100 of each. That should get me through fine for about a few months or less, more likely less. I will burn at 8x like suggested, and try not to load anymore nonsense that may hamper the system as it is now. Just when are DL discs going to get cheaper, sheesh!!! Thanks again Also, send me a link to the CSEL issue and 80 pin vs 40 pin forum. I would like to add another DVD drive and see what is the best way.
After many non-problematic burns with Nero 7 and a LITE-ON SOHW 1693 burner (thanks to the intrepid After Dawn posters), I started having "illegal disk" burn abortion incidents again, despite using Taiyo Yuden media. My first thought was that it was because I ahd upgraded to Nero 7.2, so I uninstalled, cleaned, and went back to 7.0.8.2. Still happened. I then remembered that I had received the infamous Windows message box on start-up that morning that indicated that msconfig.exe had been invoked and my start-up preferences changed. I also noted that my tray seem more clogged than usual. Lo and behold, all of the start-up programs I had disabled had been re-enabled, including one that in the past had caused Nero to screw up on burns: mimboot, a tray component of MusicMatch Jukebox. I disabled mimboot, and am now enjoying perfect DVD burns at 16x. The short story is: disable ALL tray components of MusicMatch Jukebox if you have that program installed.
Another thing I noted is that you have to make sure the disk you are using is in burner physically itself for the system to recognize it. For when using inferior disks, the system will upchuck the whole burn if it is not in ahead of time to calculate burn speed etc...
@JSDTX Tks for posting back your results - good to hear the you're happily burning again! Here's the link from arniebear's post in the 1st page of this thread for csel: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCS-c.html Yep I wish the dual layer would get cheaper too - I only use them occasionlly - $1.50 (approx) each to .30 each hmmmm think I'll take the .30! I think you'll be happy with the Taiyo's also (I am). I've used supermediastore for about 2 years w/ no issues. @griffinia Tks for you input too! Burn errors can be caused by others things as you pointed out. Nero is not necessarily the problem
