@andyp95 You can try a system restore to a date before the updates then see what happens. I haven't had any windows update issues using xp sp2 but every pc is different - specs, programs installed etc. You may have a conflict somewhere. let us know how it turns out - good, bad or otherwise (hopefully good though!)
@andyp95 You could try updating your 6x version and see if that helps. http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe But those logs really showed Nero not liking those discs. Disc Manufacturer ID: RICOHJPN . For illegal disc errors, we check firmware, nero version, and media. Its usually one or more of those things being the main problem. Most often media is it.
Hi Max, Not only Nero, but w/other softwares as well. I don't think it's the media, because I've been using it many times before. I don't really know what's the caused, but seems like it stop burning everything. I wanted to use the recovery system cd to recover everything, but then my drive doens't recognized the disc either therefore I can't. I also chose system restore,after restarting the comp, it failed too. In Tmpgenc it said something about wrong unit/drive not ready. I don't know what to do now
@andyp95 Sounds like you may have got more than you bargained for when doing an update. Don't know what else may be acting up on your pc (non media related) but here are 2 more suggestions - run a virus scan and you can also try unnstalling the drive(s) then reboot and let windows reinstall. @andyp95 I would try going with the latest stock firmware update [bold]VSOM[/bold] as binkie7 suggested. You updated the patched firmware, but maybe the stock firmware will work better. Its worth a try. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1818 Try putting the stock firmware back in that drive, updating to nero 6.6.0.18 and try burning again. If it fails, post the log here.
HI max, blinkie I did a search on the net, and read acrosee someone with the same error, and they suggest installing ForceASPI 1.7...phew luckily it works with Ridata 4x DVD+R. However, when I tried it w/Taiyo Yuen same problem occurs again, it keeps asking me to insert the disc, which I did..but the drive says it's empty. When I try it w/Ridata media, it works again. Not only Nero, but CLoneDVD,Tmpgenc. This is weird : ( because I can burn w/Taiyo Yuen before. I have lots of Taiyo Yuen media left, and only 2 more blank Ridata.. To make the long story short, right now, my burner only recognize Ridata Rx DVD+R media. Or is there a possibility that it only recognize dvd+r media and not dvd-r or dvd+rw? I updated it to the latest VSOM one from codeguys page, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions ? Which firmware should I download? BTw, I tried that page to dl VSOM but it says it only work for Liteon SOHW 832s, I don't understand why either because that's the burner model I'm using. However, I'm still able to download and install the firmwares on http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html though. Thank you so much, I really appreciated it.

From teh NeroInfo Tool, it's under D347 SSI COntroller, but I couldn't find it under Device Manager. I could see D347 SSI COntroller, but nothing under it . However, both my primaray & secondary are already in the DMA if available mode. thanks
@andyp95 Glad to hear at least some discs are working! Now for those Taiyo's - hmmm - I burn them on this same drive w/ the VSOM firmware and previous firmware versions so post another Nero log - just the one for the Taiyo burn failure. It recognize Ridata 4x DVD+R disc, but now RW..w/RW it says illegal disc. W/Taiyo Yuen 4x DVD-R, it keeps checking for the disc and tell to insert disc, which I did weird. @andyp95 Which VSOM firmware did you use from the code guys? The modified VSOM or the stock VSOM? Oh and the latest nero version is 7.0.8.2 - you can update that by going to nero product center in smart start and downloading. Updating it may not solve this problem though but I would update.
@andyp95 Did you do anything with ASPI? From this I cant tell if you used force aspi, or just read about it. Check the status of your system aspi with nero info tools. You should see something like this on your info tool: Also here is what AD says about ASPI layers and how to install them: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/aspisetup.cfm One of the things in force aspi is called killaspi, and that removes the old or corrupted aspi. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm If nero reports your system aspi as good, then im just about out of ideas as to what else it can be.
HI Max, I used force ASPI , because I did a check in Nero, and the SYstem ASPI isn't green before. Now both are green. Blinkie, I used the patched one, it didnt solove the problem so I switch to stock for now.
@andyp95 Well I'm at at loss now - maybe the drive is going? Maybe bad flash with the original patched firmware? Don't know but for now it only seems to like the ridata. Since it has this problem w/ all other burning progs too you may just want to pick up a new one - they're alot cheaper now (I remember paying $150 or something like that for this drive when it 1st came out.)

@andyp95 Just my 2 cents but go with a internal - cheaper and believe me they are way too easy too install. If I can do it anyone can! If you need help w/ it there's always someone here to help!!
Binkie, Do you have any suggestions which brand,model I should get this time? Last time, somebody installed the internal Liteon for me, it looks too tough for me to install w/all the openning and stuffs. But I'll do a search and see. Thanks
@andyp95 For brand I would say Plextor - that's the king of burner's (imho). Members here and my firends love this burner. Now for model I haven't looked into the different ones yet - I'm waited for the dual layer burn speed to go a little higher than 8x then I plan on getting a Plextor unless one of my drives goes sooner. The cost of an internal vs external is almost half - installation easy. The drive should come with everything you need & the instructions are very easy to follow. It's really not that bad!! Thanks Binkie. I just ordered Plexter's PX-740UF external drive, it's on sale now..and I wasn't sure if I can install an internal one myself and this one is a pretty good deal.
Hi Binike, OMg, just realized that the Min processor requirement is 1.6 GHz, mine is only 1.5 GHz...My fault, should've looked before I order, totally forgot about that. Do you think 1.5 Ghz is still ok? Or do I really have to upgrade it to 1.6? Don't know how to do that yet, but I'll check. BTw, have a nice weekend!
