    Just for info, Best Buy Online has the 25 spindle Verbatim DVD-R 16x on sale for $7.99. Ordered a few for store pickup.

    Same for the 25 spindle of +R

    Maybe we can put the final nail in this coffin this week :)

    hello there,i was trying to burn a data mp3 dvd the other day it copyed to a dvd+r no problem,tryed to burn on a dvd-and all i made was a load of coasters!confusing me because i have used this media before.My friend as flashed my drive with the latest firmware,still unable to use dvd- i am aware i am using a older version of nero but read so many bad reports about upgrading to nero 7 would be grateful if somebody could help me out heres the nero log

    Your DMA is off on all these drives. But I am not sure if you can get it turned on using nvidia drivers, which will sometimes cause conflicts with Nero

    What brand of media are you using. Make sure you are using a reputable brand Sony, Verbatim, Maxell or Fuji.

    You don't need to upgrade Nero, you need to downgrade...

    The version you are using has yet to have the wrinkles ironed out of it yet, revert back to version 6.6.0.18, it is a known working version. Get it here:

    These should be TDK discs, and do not come highly recommended, try some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell (made in Japan).

    Em all i know is these dvd- worked before lol cheap disks on a spindle which my mate supplied!will try and dwn grade nero see if that helps i havent got any of his disks left i made coasters with them lol.Was wondering if any programes were conflicting with nero ie any dvd,clone dvd2,clone cd etc or musicmatch

    Roxio is known to cause conflicts with Nero, but I don't see it's drivers listed in your log.

    I edited in the 'thank you for the help and esp your patience'. You prob missed it :)

    For grins I will try buring with the other programs we tried earlier.

    I need to read up on how to get the Nero 'quality test' to run. I got the benchmark no problem. I couldn't even run the benchmark on the Memorex DVDs. The Verbatims 6.70x-16.03x avg 11.98.

    I got it the second time around, and you are very welcome.

    Try the quality scanning feature if your drive supports PI/PO scanning, I believe Lite-On drives do.

    This section here is where the burner tries to recognize the disc, but yours isn't recognizing...there should be something here besides all the zeroes.

    And this error means that your burner doesn't like the discs.

    Try burning at 4X, if you get no joy, I'm afraid your next step will be to get some different blanks...Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan).

    The version on Nero you are using is a good one, and your firmware is current, so as of now the media looks to be the culprit...but try a slower burn and see if that helps.

    Attached is a log from a Verbatim DVD. After switching to the Verbatims all was well until I got two coasters. Same old Illegal Disk. What does the log tell you?

    I've been burning the verbatims at 12x without issue. The 16x I tried also worked but I backed off to 12x
