@GPL44 My only suggestion right now would be to slow down to 4X and work your way up to see what speed you can successfully get away with.
@nexxus Firmware could be updated, but is unavailable at my site...might try the sony site. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces Back your target size up to 4300, you are burning too close to the edge of the disc. Turn this option off, only use it with DVD+R's Havent seen this one before...I see you are using verbatim, have you tried another brand? Verbs are usually held in high regard, but perhaps your system just doesn't like them.

Yep- tried all the way down to 4x.. For the life of me can't figure it out. SHM-165H6S will burn DVD+.... just not the FujiFilm DVD-. The drive is fairly new- maybe the firmware isn't comaptible with the disks? I'm grasping at straws... Could it be that this drive dosen't like fujifilm? My old Lite-On would burn to these FujiFilm disks just fine using nero. I just swapped the drives yesterday.
Have your tried another brand media just for poops and chuckles? It seems that's the only error in the log.
I thought about doing that. I used my last DVD- (other then the FujiFilm) the other day and only have DVD+ left. I will run out tomorrow and pick some other DVD- I'll report back what I find. In additon, I installed ImgBurn and it wouldn't work with the FujiFilm either. Here is the log from that non-burn: I 17:47:24 ImgBurn Version 1.2.0.0 started! Son of a.... It IS the FujiFilm DVD-!!!!!! I found a couple of DVD- ..... Nero and the SHM-165H6S worked just fine with the other brand of DVD-! Why would this particular drive NOT like the FujiFilm DVD-? It doesn't make any sense- It can burn the crappy Memorex DVD- no problem...but rejects the FujiFilm DVD-..lol What gives?!
Ok.. Last post for today. I called lite-on to report the problem with the FujiFilm DVD-R disks. The tech told me that FujiFilm are basically crap...lol.. I thought I read on here that they were considered good? I told him that I had previously burned to these disks with 2 other Lite-on drives, but that my NEW SHM-165H6S won't play. He once again said that FujiFilm is considered cheap, and that maybe in the next firmware there will be compatability....I shall wait and see. Thanks for everyone's help.
Generally speaking, if it's made in Japan your good to go...Fuji, Sony, Maxell, Taiyo Yuden. Verbatims are the only ones I would trust from Taiwan. Just out of curiousity, since the tech told you Fuji were crap, what did he suggest as an alternative brand? By the way, stay away from Memorex and Imation.
He definitely said Verbatims...... He said a few others, but at that point I thought he was "full of it", so I didn't really pay attention after the told me Fuji were crap, low-end...lol.. He tried to make me feel like a dunce for using such "low-end" media...
Heeee's back Posting for what its worth. I had given up for a time and let my burning issues sit. Today I bought Harry Potter GOF and tried to just play it in my computer. No dice, locked everything up and the DVD player just sat there and blinked. Enabled AnyDVD and it played fine. Ripped it with DVD shrink and AnyDVD to an ISO. Deep analysis etc. No issues there. Wouldn't burn with 7.0.5.4, haven't tried the latest one yet....7.0.8.2 but looking at the version numbers doesn't appear they updated Burning Rom from .5.4. Cleaned 7.0.5.4 out completely with the clean tools and installed the old OEM that came with the burner 6.3.1.26. Burned it at 8x with no issues. I'm still using the Verbatim 16x blanks (and will continue to do so). The PQ wasn't bad at all considering the compression required to get just the movie on a single layer DVD. I'll let the kids play with that one I checked the power supply in the computer, 600w unit and it looked good. The fact it burns fine with the old software rules out hardware issues. Maybe not hardware/software conflict of some 'strange' kind. Remember I started having issues after updating to Norton IS 2006, Nero 7.0.5.4, created the dynamic drive. Grasping at straws, yes. I'm still checking out software that is or has been installed just before I started having problems. Tonight I am going to completely uninstall Norton IS v2006 and use their clean software. The only other change was making a single dynamic drive out of the 250gb and 300gb data drives I have installed. If cleaning and reinstalling Norton doesn't help I'll separate the dynamic drive back into two basic drives. I have copied an ISO to the system drive from the data drives and attempted to burn it with 7.0.5.4, made no difference. Also remember that if I rip a DVD with Recode to an NRG and then burn it with 7.0.5.4 it works ok. Also after I switched to Verbatims from the Memorex/TDK DVDs everything worked for a few days and quit again. I'm betting that if I clean the system disks and reinstall everything the issue will disappear..... Just haven't decided to pull the trigger on that one yet. I am having no other glitches on my system, just the DVD burning issue. No viruses or spyware/adware has been detected. I even checked for the Sony DRM rootkit. I will be sure to post if I do come up with an answer/solution. Thanks again, Lee
Cleaned out v6 OEM and installed 7.0.8.2 and we're back to illegal disk. Cleaned that out and reinstalled the v6 OEM and we're burning again. ??? I guess if all I was interested in was burning DVDs this would be a solution but I bought v7 so I could work with HDV files from my HD camcorder..... Lee
Hey buddies...I've been gettin' this illegal disc error since yesterday..the problem occurs even after closing all unwanted programs running in the background...I also tried writing at a low speed..no use...U guys r saying something about updating the firmware...I guess tat could fix the prob...I dunno how to go about it though....I am sendin' U my log file....Plzz have a look and HALP!!!!!

@danny85 - you'd posted more than one log section which meant your serial number crept into the post. no biggie, i've edited your post and left just the last sectoin of logfile.. - Nero's too old, here's a couple links for 6.6.0.18 - http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe (the latest 6.x version is 6.6.1.4 but a lot of ppl are having problems with that version so stick to 6.6.0.18) - version MYS3 of your firmware is here - http://www.cdr.cz/dvd_rekordery/sony/dwg120a.html - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner..update Nero - if none of the recommended tweaks help, try better discs - see other comments - maybe try 4x along with the recommended tweaks
