But if the BIOS can see it and identify it properly by brand & model, then shouldn't that indicate that it's connected & powered? I run the add hardware wizard, but no soap - I don't know how to make Windows see it.
Run Nero Info Tool, in there you have your pc's guts inside out. Everything is in there. If your burner lists there you're home.
What drivers did you uninstall? I'm starting to think you have done something yu shouldn't have done... Check www.driverguide.com, look for your burners drivers there and re-install them all. in the meantime you can try to put your other drive in DMA mode.
Nero's Info tools sez that my cd burner (master, secondary IDE) is DMA on, so at least that's as it should be. I'm on driverguide now looking for drivers. THANKS for your attention and your ideas.
News! A bent pin on the IDE connector made for bad karma with the DVD burner! Now I'm back at the beginning again: *All tray stuff turned off and no spyware (atleast according to the tools you recommended and to my Spyware Doctor) but still a VM error; *DMA off on the secondary slave, but can't turn it on, even with Alkohol's protocol; *My latest FULL log attempt here: All together now, "The wheels on the bus go round and round...."
Drooler, You posted all of your Nero burn logs since 10/22/2005 including your serial number in each one. The latest burn log is for 2/20/06. I don't see any logs for todays date in there. You need to edit out the unneeded logs and your serial number before someone steals it. Also, look for the last burn you tried and post it without the serial number.
That was the only ".log" in the entire "/Ahead" directory. I don't know if it didn't write to it or what. When I tried to burn again, the program hung up at the "burning to disc" phase for 2 1/2 hours - I finally ended it through Task Master ("This program is not responding....") I'm going to DL the Nero version Permiggs recommended and try again this afternoon. Gotta do some $$ work now, though.
