    Hello there,

I have been using my Nero software for about a year and all of a sudden I cannot burn DVDs. If I try to create a dvd from (for example) an .avi file to play in my DVD player, once the file is transcoded the drive ejects and the program says to: "please insert a blank disc". Also, when I try to burn a DVD data file I get the exact same error immediately.

    other info:
    1) I can burn CDs no problem (either data Cds or audio CDs)
    2) I have cleaned my drives (both of them)
    3) I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero

This is clearly very frustrating. Solutions suggested to me:
    1)you have a virus
    2)your drives should be cleaned
3)you've installed something that has changed some settings somewhere

I'm very confused and not sure how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is another possibility that your burner is going....... I have heard that when a burner goes it stops burning DVDs and it will only burn CDs. I have had burners before but I usually buy new computers before I ever had a burner die on me. anyway..... this is what I heard. Post your failed Nero History log, located here

Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.tx

Wouldn't it be 1 in a million that both my burners have gone at the same time though?
    &
there no error log generated given that no error actually occurs

Thanks in advance for any help

That's generally a sign of Nero not recognizing the media so it may be a bad blank. Try another brand. Just a guess.

Even a good history log would help. There is one generated for each DVD/CD burn made.

that maybe so! then again it might be exactly what Fasfrank said:
what version of Nero do you have? maybe it's time to reinstall to another version and see if some other program
who knows.... an update to a newer or more stable version of Nero might just be needed.
