It won't necessarily speed up the burn process, but it sounds like you are doing more than just burning. Transcoding can be an exhaustive process, and more memory will defitely help out the overall time of this process. Is the majority of the 8 hour process in the transcoding phase?

edit: We would need some system specs in order to tell you what kind of ram to buy, installing new Ram is a very simple process, just need to know what kind to buy. Sometimes some "mom and pop" computer stores will just install the ram for you when you buy it there, but I think places like Best Buy will charge you for the install, and it is literally a 2 minute (if that) process.

[bold]YES IT IS! that is definetly the problem[/bold]

as for the computer it is older, its an HP pavilion model # 8665C, and I am assuming it has one memory stick in it??? Whatever it came with havent changed it. I did install a dvd burner and a new hard drive which shows up but it is not the master hard drive although I would like it to be. What do you think I could put in it to "speed it up" so to speak. Oh, and thanks to all that have helped, its very appreciated.

Your Nero is way behind, go to Nero site and update

You are low on memory, to complete a successful burn you need at least 512meg RAM, suggest you add another 256meg. In the meantime close down all unnecessary progs including spyware.

For future burns slow speed to 4X

If I remember right the 8665c is a 600mhz right? Or was it 650mhz? Either way it can only compensate 128 mb mem per slot and only has 2 slots. So you can only max it at 256 meg by adding another 128. Very slow transcodes are going to be the norm on that system. You can be kinda glad it transcodes at all really. I am kinda shocked it is burning good at 6x. If you start getting failed burns the first thing to do is slow down the burning speed.
