OK, I built a new computer and have been having some problems when burning DVDs. I originally updated Nero to the most current version, but then went back to 6.6.0.18 (thank you very much to this forum for that!) and that solved that problem. Since then I've burned 3 disks successfully. Now, however, Nero is locking up at anywhere between 54 and 59% completion of burn on the last 3 attempts. I looked at the log, but only the last successful one is showing up because I've had to ctrl-alt-del end task to get out of Nero when it locked up. I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 setting for automatic burn thru Nero. I have a Memorex DVD+/-RW True 8XI UWS4 drive. I can't find any firmware for this drive. I've found where some think it is a Liteon SOHW-832S, but the firmware for that won't install because it says it's not the right drive. When I check the disc, sure enough it's only about halfway burned. The last thing that is listed on the Nero window is "Burn started successfully at 8x". I'm also using Taiyo Yuden S.T. 8X DVD-R discs. Any thoughts? Thanks,

It's this one as far as I can tell. The specs all line up.

Memorex True 8Xl Dual V3 Internal

The only thing that doesn't match the title on the booklet for the drive is the V3 part.

Here's the latest entry in the log from the last successful burn. Like I said earlier it's missing the logs from the unsuccessful attempts because I had to 'end program' after it locked. The on screen running log shows everything up to "Burn process started at 8x (11,080 KB/s)". Thanks for the help.

Well, I found this on the Memorex site. I also saw on the other referenced site that you can update it to a LiteOn version.

    http://www.memorex.com/html/download_software_discon.php?sid=15

Although it looks like you may have the latest firmware.

They will also tell you to dump the Roxio software which you seem to still have installed. There is a zapper, but I don't have the reference.

Yeah, that was the site I downloaded the stuff from that said my drive didn't match what it was supposed to update.

Didn't realize I had anything Roxio on here as it is a new machine with fresh installs and I didn't install any Roxio. Where is it showing that?

Any advantage to converting to the Lite on version? Is there any benefit to it?

DMA needs to be on, heres a guide to turn on , http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

    Slow to 4X

Although your firmware is current and you are using Taiyo, your byrner doesnt recognize them, DMA may help

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

    heres athread about Roxio http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/354692

That's so strange that Roxio components were installed on my machine as I have nothing from Roxio. I guess another program dumped it on there.

It appears to have been a DMA problem. Interestingly enough The ASUS board came with a drivers disk and the driver combined the primary and secondary. Totally didn't look like the tutorial on the above linked thread. I had DMA selected through that driver, but for whatever reason wasn't using it as shown in the log. I uninstalled it and just let windows install its own driver and it appears to be working 3 disks so far.

Thanks so much for the help! I can finally enjoy my new computer wiithout any problems!!!

I had a problem with Nero Recode and it kept on locking up on me during the process. I contacted their TS and they claimed I had a program conflicting with it. I told them it has only started since I updated to the prior version of Nero Recode and I have updated to this release and have been using Nero Recode so far without any lockups.
