    Hello all!

Recently I have encountered a problem creating video DVDs using Nero. I have found that when I attempt to burn a video file to DVD, Nero says the burn was completed successfully but the DVD is still blank.

Initially I had no problem and I have been using Nero Vision for years. Suddenly, on the same machine, I receieved an error while burning a disc and tried again. Ever since then I receive no errors but the video files do not appear on the disc.

I updated my DVD writer's firmware. I also installed an up-to-date version of Nero, but I am still having the same problem.

Could the issue be with the media? I am also concerned that my DVD writer may have somehow been disabled. Please help!

Post a history or error log so we can take a look.

This has happened to me occasionally because the disc is not inserted properly on the drive tray. I always verify burns, in every case the problem was detected in the verification.

Thanks guys, sorry for the delay in my reply. I have already tried verifying burns, but no luck there. I also had this problem already with an older version of Nero, but I will give that a second try if I can't resolve the problem.

    heartborn,

First off you need edit out your serial numbers, they are the first 5 lines of your post. You don't want others to use them

Next, you need to get your DMA turned back on:

    CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW nvatabus Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off

    Here's a guide from binkie7 for that:

    http://www.burningbits.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2986&highlight=

This might cure your problem in itself.

Looks like you have the latest firmware, but I don't see where your drive is recognizing your media. What are you using to burn to?

You can also try one of the free burning programs to test if your burner is operating correctly. I also use ImgBurn.

Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately, I had some issues here as well. I'll use screenshots to help explain.

My Device manager was laid out slightly differently than the one in Hobbit's example, but I was able to navigate my way through. IN any event, we can see my two IDE channels here; the first IDE bus has two hard drives in it, those look to be set to use DMA:

The secondary channel contains only my combo drive; DMA seems to be set to default here, but just as in the other window, it is greyed out. That concerns me a bit.

I'm hoping this helps to narrow down the problem. As of right now it looks like some other setting that this is all dependent upon may be disabled.

Oh yes, the media I am using is Memorex DVD+R 16x. Previously I used different media and had no trouble with it, but I don't see why this media should be an issue. Has anyone had bad experiences with it?

Upon looking at the menus again and playing quickly with the buttons and checkboxes, I have a rather more complex list of choices:

I had foolishly overlooked the "let BIOS choose" check box :-(
Which of these modes should I choose?

    your DMA settings are ok

on the memorex its NOT the best choice . its considered low grade media and alot of people have problems with it. using Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim is the much better choice.

and its a very good possibility your NEC drive doesn't like the memorex either

Although the version of Nero you are using is a good stable version, there has been several updates since then...some good and others horrible...I use and recommend 7.5.9.0, which is available here

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1881

You will find that in most logs, for some reason that it shows DMA as being OFF..which is not the fact.

Slow your burn to 4X and get rid of those Memorex

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

Thanks to everyone for your input. Special thanks to Gwen, the roxio zapper seemed to do the trick! I burned a DVD earlier today successfully.
