then you should have no prob with Nero! Don't know what else to tell you, unless you have a pirated copy of the program. Nero should work on your system.

Did this version come with a drive, and is that same drive installed in the computer? Sometimes the OEM versions that come with drives will not work unless the drive is installed i.e. if you changed the drive or if you are trying to run someone elses copy.

Have you tried taking out all your restore points:
    First Delete Nero
    Second Delete your restore points
    Third Install Nero
Fourth Create a new restore point.
Thats if your running W XP of Millem
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

Go to the Accessories folder/System Tools/Disk Cleanup choose C and it will compress the old files. Then choose the More Options Tab and on the bottome you will see a box for System Restore. Choose clean up and then okay, it will delete all your old restore points. Just remember you cannot go back any further now then this date in restore.

    arnie bear is correct.
For a step by step try this:

    5. Click return my computer to an earlier time.

    6. Click System Restore Settings

    7. Click next

    8. In the upper left hand corner click "Turn OFF" Restore on all drives

    9. Then OK

    10. Go back to step #1 when System Restore tells you that systerm restore is OFF
    click YES

    11. UnClick Turn OFF Restore points in all drives, Wait a few, Then click OK

    12. RESTART your puter

I had the exact same problem, dont know why it happened, it just freezes the computer.
You can work around it by not using the start smart, but just going in via programs & navigating to the burn section you want to use.
Otherwise Nero 7 seems to fix the problem.

I have been getting this problem also - StartSmart opens but nothing can be activated from it. It did work in Safe Mode, however, so by a process of elimination, I established that the cause of the problem was software called "SpamMatters Outlook Express Add-in", in particular a running process called ExpressAI.exe.

After removing SpamMatters software, Nero startsmart resumed normal operation.

    ????????????
