Nero Vision Won't Play My Videos in Movie Make

I've got Nero 7 which includes Nero Vision 4.

It used to work alright. But now when I import an .avi video clip into Nero Vision as part of 'make movie' it won't play.

It imports alright and I can drag it onto the timeline. Then the first frame will show in the player screen. When I click to play the marker line will move along the slider like it is playing - but all that shows is the first frame!

I reinstalled Nero Vision thinking that might help, but it didn't.

anyone got any ideas?
