Nero 6.6.1.4 This version of Nero contains some bugs, uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html and then install this more stable version, BOTH packages http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe
i did all of that and it still says the same thing, but now saying illegal disk as well, i just bought these dvds made by sony, could that be prob, other ones were dvd -r and so are these i dont see why that should be a prob tho.......please help
If you started using new/different media and then started getting an illegal disc error then there is a good chance that the media is the problem. It could also mean your burner is going bad. Please post the last burn log so we can see what it looks like with the newer version of Nero running.

my mom has the same dvd burner and discs and is not having this problem, you think cleaning the lense would help? i have never done that and had drive for past 4 years? i dunno why the drive would be bad if it still plays everything i put in it just wont burn dvds thanks for all your help Jeremy
It may be that the drive is dirty so yes you should try cleaning it. If possible, swap it for the one in your mom's computer and see if hers will work. If you have had it for a few years it may be going bad. A bit of canned air may help blow out any dust/dirt on the laser lens so try that. Playing something (reading) takes a lot less laser power than burning something so the loss of the ability to burn would be a good indication of something going bad in the drive. One last thing is you should enable DMA on this HDD:
thank you i will try cleaning it today and get back to you but as far as turning dma on on this drive i was told to do that before and did it right but for some reason all of them are dma except the first one on the primary ide and no matter what i do in device manager to it will not change it back to the way it was? any help on that, i saw the post on how to do it and tried that numerous times cause i saw dma off as well and dont know what else to try to fix that issue, last time fixed my problem... my last problem awhile back can be found if you type jvolling in the search at the top with issues with dma mode
when my comp starts up it says ultra dma mode on tha hdd is enabled but when it start completely and you go to device manager that way the dvice 0 on primary says po only but other says ultra dma mode 2 ,for secondary it says both devices are in dma mode, i have tried changing it uninstalling the driver, everything it just wont change for some reason Any Help? Thanks For Everything
ok i figured out it was my dvd discs, the sony ones dont seem to work for some reason but my old fujifilm ones i had work fine. but any help with dma issue will be greatly appreciated
