    @lifeguy
    As stated above:

Note: you still haven't updated the drives' firmware as gwendolin suggested to version 1.19, you should do this as it adds additional media compatibility/enhancements to your drive.

This is the update refered to..............

Looks like you're still trying to apply booktyping to thos disks.

    4:52:15 PM #25 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 5400

    Book Type request [LG]: DVD-ROM
Changing the Book Type was finished with error, return code -1

Check shrink again, and confirm your choice (uncheck booktype as DVD-ROM) by clicking ok before you close the program.

    Let me just add this...

    NO MULTITASKING WHILE BURNING!!!

You have almost no resources left for anything, let alone a burn.

Burning too close to the edge of the disc, set target size in DVD Shrink or Recode (whichever you use) to 4300.

Where were those Sony's made, Japan or Taiwan?

johnl...I confirmed the booktype box in Shrink is unchecked, thanks much!! LOCO, I do not multi-task when I burn, so something else must be sucking the resources on my machine. I set the target size in Shrink to 4300, thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately the Sony discs were made in Taiwan, not Japan, and I have read in other threads that this is not good (although I have used these exact discs in the past without problem). I will get new media. Thanks to you both for your continued posts.

I have tried everything mentioned above, and just got the latest error log that will be posted below. johnl, looks like a portion of the error has to do with booktyping, but just to reiterate, I changed the booktyping to automatic in Nero, and unchecked the booktyping box in Shrink. You guys rock for hanging in there with me on this!
Here is a portion of the latest log:

If you aren't doing anything while you are burning and it's still taking up that much memory it could be a virus, nothing certain though.

Glue...maybe a virus is causing the problem? I wanted to ask you if I should post a HiJack This log somewhere else on Afterdawn? ( Man, am I getting desperate!) I use Trendo Micro, and it seems pretty good, and weekly scans have not revealed any viruses, but.... Like I said, I have done all of the suggestions so far with no luck, but hopefully people won't give up on this!! Thanks.

    Just a suggestion.

Instead of using shrink to autoburn with nero, can you try to have shrink create a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive then manually burn the files to disk using nero and see what happens?

Create a folder on your desktop and give it the name of your movie
    ie... flightplan_movie

When backing up in DVDshrink, choose to save the target as a "hard drisk folder" from the dropdown menu, for a storage location, browse to inside the folder you created on you desktop and click ok. Shrink should create a VIDEO_TS folder inside the movie folder you created containing the video files which will be manually burned to disk.

Manually start nero burning rom from the smart start window and follow these guides for burning the files to disk.

    Manually burning with nero

@johnl; I can't thank you enough for your continued contributions to this thread, and your (and the others)willingness to help. Hopefully this thread will help others with similar problems.
I followed your instructions and tried to manually burn a disc with Nero, after creating a folder with Shrink.....unfortunately I got another error. I'll post the log below, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please post. I can't believe I'm having this much difficulty after burning hundreds of dvd's with this same machine in the past.
    Thanks, Chris

It seems as if this is the exact same error EVERY TIME. I wonder what could be the cause of this?

    From the latest log;

    3:33:05 PM #27 SPTI -1135 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 323
    D: CdRom0: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1135)
    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
    Sense Code: 0x0C

Still does not like the media...

Is that the latest version of Nero? If so, roll back to the previous one & give it a whirl.

Is that the latest version of Nero? If so, roll back to the previous one & give it a whirl.

@Pulsar: Thanks for your response, and yes, I am using Nero 7 Ultra. Any idea where I can get the previous version? Maybe that will help.

I need to try new discs too, but would be a first that this drive didn't like a particular media.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion and link, Gwen. That same link was provided earlier in the thread, and I unistalled and used the general clean tool, reinstalled Nero from the link, and still am having problems.
I am dumbfounded by this...... :(

Oh well, I guess people have given up on this particular thread. Still can't burn dvd's for whatever reason.

Anyway, thanks to those that contributed to this thread, and tried to help. If anyone finds a possible solution, it would be much appreciated!

Try this since your drive doesn't support booktyping - make sure in Nero 'automatic' or DVD-ROM is not checked. From your logs Nero is trying to booktype a +r on a burner that doesn't support this. Make sure this setting is not enabled in shrink also.
From what I could find on your drive - the max speed is 4x - so you might want to slow it down a bit since your burning at max speed.

Thanks for the responses Binkie and johnl. I don't yet want to give up on Nero, as I have used this program for a couple of years without problems copying dvd's. That is why I am so dumbfounded by my new problems in copying. If all else fails though, johnl I will try your suggestion of course.

Binkie, I checked my settings in Nero, and the booktype setting is set to "automatic". There are three other options: dvd-rom, physical disc type, and current recorder settings. Which would you recommend I try since my drive doesnt like booktyping?

    Thanks!
