I just now tried another burn with the Nero 7 Nero Burning Rom -- and it failed with the DVD-R media (now 15 out of 15) -- but worked last week with Nero 6. I did have a successful DVD-R burn of a "Data" disc (Nero Express), but NeroVision and Nero Burning ROM will not burn DVD-Rs. OK, I guess I give up on this -- it seems unsolvable, at least by me and it has apparently stumped most of the others here. I can't get any help from Nero -- obviously why myself and so many others are on this forum. So can I get some help on backing up to Nero 6. Can I just uninstall Nero 7 and double click on the "Nero-6.6.0.16_eng.exe" that I downloaded earlier. Thanks.
OK, looks like I am talking to myself here, but maybe this will be helpful or interesting to anyone else who might be having these problems. It took me all evening to backup to Nero 6 last night. First I uninstalled the Nero 7, that seemed to go OK -- but the uninstall did not erase the Nero directory in Program Files. However there was nothing (No Nero's) left in the Windows Add/Remove application list. However, as I mentioned, the Nero directory (where Nero 7 is installed) was still there in Program Files, as well as the Ahead directory (where Nero 6 is installed) -- I guess Nero 7 didn't remove that on the Nero 7 install. I then found, downloaded, and ran the Nero General Clean utility, which only seemed to erase the Nero 6 Ahead directory. I couldn't get the Nero 6 installed (didn't access the right download file), and in the process, ended up re-installing Nero-7. Decided to try it one more time, but it still could not burn a DVD-R. Uninstalled the Nero 7 again and then went out and erased the entire Nero 7 directory in Programs Files -- since there isn't a General Clean utility for Nero 7 and that is all General Clean seems to do for Nero 6. Re-installed Nero 6 -- and that worked. But the Nero 6 didn't have the full Nero functions, such as being able to burn DVDs. Had a lot of problems that I won't go into loading the two update packages (because the 1st update aborted during install), but eventually got everything loaded and updated. So now I am back to a fully functioning, I think, I hope, Nero 6 -- and guess what -- it works. It was 25:00 in the morning and I just burned 1 DVD-R, but it did work (seemed to spend a long time writing the Lead-out, and had me worried, but it did work and I am happy). I know this is not a common, general problem and that this particular problem of not being able to burn DVD-Rs is specific to my computer, but it is making me nervous as to whether to advise my father-in-law to get a copy of this program. He would never in a million years be able to go through all of the things I went through.
Ron, i've been trying to keep up with your Nero troubles, you've definitely been thru the wringer more than most....looks like you should stay clear of Nero 7 for a whiles longer. I was gonna stay away anyway as i've no need for any newer versions myself but i'm definitely not upgrading now
Sorry rnsmithad i got busy elsewhere and lost your thread. You seem to have sorted it out without my help. A couple of things i think of now as i see your list of coasters. We could have had you burning in simulation mode where we generate a log, but don't burn to a disc. Also, i should have suggested DVD+RW media until you got a successfull burn. My brain is always on, but badly fragmented lol You can also select "simulation" in the burn settings of nero. It still needs a disc in the drive, but doesn't write to it. Also you can run nero info tool and check the ASPI settings for each drive: Here is what info tool looks like on the ASPI setting. You should have the green color, if you get red or yellow, ASPI is having problems. Do the check for all drives by selecting different drives in the pulldown. It may seem like you are talking to yourself (i do that all the time) but others are out there looking at your posts, and will jump in if they see something you can fix. The way this is an international forum, someone is always awake and in here 24hrs a day 365 days a year.
and as creaky said, you have been thru the wringer on this. I for one will not be upgrading to Nero 7 for a while. 6.6.0.18 works just fine for me
