Nerovision Express 2 Transcoding Problems

I'm chagrined to admit that, after trying various suggestions in this forum, the fix was simply to transcode the MPEG file to the hard drive first and then burn it with Nero.

Jay, wish I had some advice for you. Others on this forum are much better informed, so be patient, and, in the interim, read the forum and keep trying!

 

What program do you suggest I transcode with then? Thnx

 

TMPGEnc - to resample/convert/edit movie files.
TMPGEnc DVD Author - to make a DVD, author a menu, manage chapters, everything!
DVD Shrink - to make my "authored DVD" fit to a sigle layer DVD-5 disk, and create the ISO image.
Nero - to burn the ISO image to disk.

Sure, would be nice if one package would do the lot - but working with the above selection of very high quality products is easy, rewarding and fault-free!

 

I found this thread yesterday after some googling, because I had the exact same problem as described by many users here : nerovision hangs in the middle of transcoding.
The files I am trying to burn to DVD are 2 MPEG2 files taken from a camcorder and encoded with Pinacle. They should not need reencoding, and apparently Neorvision is not trying to reencode, because the "time to go" is ~20 minutes for the whole CD, and it seems to short for reencoding.

I have 2 different PCs for my tests :
- WinXP Pro SP2 (lots of system ressources)
- Win2000 Server SP4 (lots of ressources too)

The result is exactly the same on BOTH computers.
If I choose to burn either on the DVD burner OR on the Image Recorder, the transcoding hangs in the middle.
Strangely, it looks like the .nrg file created after I kill the NeroVision process (when burning to image recorder) is ~800MB, which would be the maximum capacity of a CD-ROM. Would this be a hint ?
The transcoding hangs just the same if I choose to just write the files to a local folder.

I had the latest Nerovision and Nero upgrade. I tried uninstalling both and cleaning (with nero cleanup utility), and reinstalling both + ffdshow : same thing.
I tried uninstalling and cleaning, and reinstalling older versions (the link was taken from this thread, the versions are Nero 6.3.125 and Nerovision 2.1221), and Nerovision tells me that the movie is too long for the DVD (~300MB larger than the DVD size). I believe that some algorythm was changed in Nerovision 3, because I have roughly 500MB left on the DVD when trying to burn the same files with this latest version.

I do agree with the latest posts here saying that there are some ways to burn DVDs on a PC using multiple software. I do NOT agree that this is the point of this discussion : we are trying to get Nerovision to work, and that's about it !!!
If you are looking for some kind of software that burns AVIs to DVD, I can recommend DIKO that is freeware (really), and does a perfect job.
The problem is that DIKO works only with AVIs, not with MPG files, so I can't use it for my purpose.

If that's your only problem with NVE2 all you have to do is change the default bitrate.

Click More-> Video Options-> DVD-Video and choose Custom in Quality Settings. Just pick a lower number than the default 5073kbit/s, ie 4900kbit/s. Try a few different settings till it fits on the DVD.

 

Well, I did, but surprisingly this had no effect on the size of the compilation.
I thought that my original files being mpeg2 (dvd compliant) files, NVE just kept their bitrate and did not even try any reencoding, so I did not try further (I tried quality settings from the lowest to the highest without witnessing any change in the duration bar on the bottom of the window).

It seems to stick sometimes with the pre-sets, next time try setting the number manually under Custom.

 

hi, im new to this site but ive been reading all the posts on this matter and tried using all the recomended actions but with out success. ive have various movies and am trying to make vidio cds/dvds, using nve3 updated from nve2. but every time i get half way through encoding and the whole system freezes forcing me to reboot my system. ive tried encoding with differnt programms so i doubt it is a nero problem. ive had my comp back in the shop in and out for over 2 months, convinced it was a hardware fault until i read this page! somebody please help!!!

My experience with nve3100 is similar to others. I can successfully "burn" images of slideshows to hdd as nrg images. I have NEVER any trouble burning a valid image to DVD with Nero. However,Recode crashes if I click any of the three action buttons.
However, the intriguing thing is that I built a new system using the Sempron cpu and 512 MB RAM, onboard video for a client. I installed nero and nve in current versions and tested Recode. it worked flawlessly! I have since cleaned my system thoroughly three (3) times, inc searching and deleting every reference to nero - yet recode still crashes as before.

encoding freezes computer when tryung to make video dvds, video cd's or super video cd's using nero vission express 3. It did not work with nero vision express 2 either. I have tried safe mode, using only nessecery codecs and formatting c: drive but nothing works. CRAIG i hope germany went well and hope you found something to help us all.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for my long absence. I've reported the issues that are being seeon on this and other forums, and we now have a few testers dedicated to trying to duplicate and resolve these issues. It's priority has been raised considerably.

For some of you having trouble with the NVE locking up, could you try going into NeroVisions More->Default Video Options and unchecking the option for "Enable Smart Encoding for Video and Audio material" and see if this resolves your issue of NVE locking up. This will of course cause NVE to re-encode everything, and this is not a permanent fix, just trying to isolate the issue. I've seen some cases, personal and users, where disabling this resolves the issue. I just wish to determine if this was a 'fluke' or if we actually have a problem in this area.

Hi Mike,

I would need the full log file. The bellow message is one that our Engingeers put into the log for debugging purposes and forgot to remove. The next release will remove this message. Its not an error message, just one for Information.

I am new to this forum, but had suffered from the same problem for the last 2 weeks.
I have created a DVD Slideshow (3.7GB) and everytime I try to burn it , Write it to the H.D, or to an Image recorder the proccess is ending without any notice. it happens usually after 2 minutes from the start.

I have read at this forum and tryed to do the things where offered here.

Today I reinstalled windows and installed only NERO, there is nothing else on my computer. tryed to burn and again the process has ended without any Error message.
I AM USING THE LATEST VERSION OF nero: 6.6.0.8A, NEROVISION EXPRESS 3.1.0.0, AND AM USING WINDOWS XP SP2.

i WILL DEFENETLY STOP WORKING WITH NERO AND THROW AWAY THE SOFTWARE I BOUGHT, BUT FOR NOW, I HAVE WORKED FOR 3 DAYS ON A BEAUTIFUL SLIDESHOW THAT I AM NOT WILLING TO EDIT AGAIN ON ANOTHER PROGRAM. PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MY MISORIES.....

yeah, i thought i had the problem fixed, but no luck. I'm currently talking to the store i bought it from, BenQ, this thread and another one trying to find out how to fix this thing. The transcoding on nero or the burning freezes every time. I have burned one DVD-RW successfully in 3 attempts and 0 DVDRs successfully in i think 6 attempts.
The other program i've tried, SOnic RecordNow doesnt freeze, but when i put 6 700mb files on a disc, usually the first 4 work and the last 2 have bad CRCs
I had the drive replaced and flashed the firmware on both, still resulting in this problem

 

Ok, I have solved my problems, after 2 weeks of seeking answers, I have finnaly figured it out:

I was trying to burn slide shows but it seemed to be that a project larger then 700MB was imposible, everytime I tried, the NERO closed without any notice

SO yesterday late night I created a new SlideShow (3.5GB), and this time I didnt create any menu at all
The burning was succesful. When I tried to burn the same project with a menu it failed.
So I created a regular menu with the regular templates and no music and the burning succeded.
Then I tried to put one of my pictures as a background to the menu and I was still able to burn it
the next step was to add music to the menu and the burning was successful.
But....
When I enabled [bold]animation [/bold] the burning had failed

ANIMATON- defenetly the NERO doesnt support the ANIMATOIN yet, animation means that you could see the chapters runing in the small windows at the menu.
NERO didnt create a good rendering software for that option, but the rest is great, so all my dubts about NERO had gone, and my faith is back again.

hi there, just an update of my problem with nero vision express 3. I am pulling my hair out trying to encode video files to make dvd-videos and video-cds. i have tried just about everything but nothing works! WHY? hope the answer is out there, thanks
