Nerovision Express 2 Transcoding Problems

Hi SeanMC,

I recieved your Log files, and it's not painting a pretty picture.

All your log files are indicating a hardware error message. In the first log file you provide, it shows a clear KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR, which is the same error message that shows up in all 5 of the log files you provided.

Upgrading the firmware of the recorder and our Nero Vision software did change the errors some, but only in that they became more descriptive. The last Log file you provided, Log #5, shows an error message of the Recorder being unable to write to the PMA area on the DVD. This is the Program Memory Area, and this is a critical area on any DVD or CD disc.

Bottom line, I would try a different brand of DVD Media, if you contine to get these same errors, your recorder needs to be sent in for service or replacement.

P.S. The log files shows the message of: "The following operation did not finish in the past 15 seconds: Grab still image:

This is not an error, this is just information our Engineers have in the log for their debugging purposes. They want to know sometimes when this process takes longer than 15 seconds.

I am using ULEAD DVD MOVIE FACTORY 4, and have found a similar problem as what I was encountering when I was using Nero. I had some issues with AVI files that I captured using Windows Media player, they were about an hour long (a full digital 8 camcorder tape). When I capture to MPEG2, no problems. It also seems to be an intermittent problem. Seems to disappear with larger files? Just a hypothesis...

 

Thanks for the anyalais craig i will look into what you said. If it is the case then it will be my burner cause i have never changed my brand of disc always memorex dvd-r. Hopefully it might just of been a bad 50 pack of discs but that is probably wishful thinking. One point i would make is how well trained are majority of nero support as in my 10+ emails to them with same logs i sent to you, they where not able to point me in this direction, meby something the company should look at. anyway thanks for the help and even if it is burner at least i will know the cause which is a big step forward from this past 6 weeks.

The below section is from Log#5, and occurs towards the very end of the log file during the burn process. As you can see, it still gives you the KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR, but now reports as a PMA update failure.

thanks craig hopefully that will be off use to gateway as i contacted them as machine is only 4 months old. They told me to try burning an audio cd to the device which i did both with nero and windows media. This sucess gateway claims means thier is nothing wrong with hardware and must be sofware?
The PMA update failure is it possibe that this would allow me to burn audio cd and large data dvd in nero but fail when burning video dvd and if so have you any ideas how i can explain it all to gateway as i am hoping hardware is still under waranty.

And Audio CD is not the same as a DVD-Video. Now with a Data DVD, it could be argued that if it works for Data DVD then it should work for DVD-Video, but the formats are different enough to have one fail and another pass.

The only way your going to rule Software out as a possible cause is by using any other Recording software, and try the same DVD-Video creation process. If it reports the same error messages, then you can say that hardware has to be the issue. (Of course Media would fall under the hardware catagory)

I would recommend uninstalling the Nero software, and downloading a Third Party Demo software and see if you have the same issue with it. I know NTI offers a Full working Demo of their DVD Authoring software, at www.ntius.com, and I think Ulead may as well, or Cyberlink.

Thanks to all who posted suggestions on resolving the "dissappearing" of Nerovision Express 2 after transcoding attempts. I have a 29 minute homevideo with 19 chapters and 4 slide shows (about 2.5 minutes each)and could not get the 2.5 GB masterpiece on DVD. Windows XP Pro, 256 MB RAM, 1.5 GHz drive etc. Got the software bundled with my Sony DRX710UL DVD+R Double Layer External DVD+-RW Drive (16x) burner. I ran animations on the menu and tried removing that without success. I removed all chapters and got it to burn with animations. I also got the same failure when adding random transitions on the slide shows. I added chapters with fully animated menus until I got the dissapperance again and this finally worked out at 5 chapters. Not what I wanted but got the flick on DVD in time for my baby's first birthday...

Seeing as I got this software bundled, how can I upgrade to NVE 3? Will this resolved the lack of chapters? Random transitions? If not, then what will?

That error sucks because i have already messed up 2 dvd's!!

try creating a new folder and putting all video and audio files into its own folder. especially if you use external hard drives.

 

its only a .avi and it is in one folder

 

apology. my confusion. i've never tried to burn .avi files directly from nerovision. i always convert to mpeg using cucsoft avi to dvd,then convert to .vob files and finally use nerovision to burn to dvd-r. i have had problems making custom menus using separate video and audio files,because the mp3's are on an internal hard drive and video on the external.moving the files to the same harde drive solved the problem. nerovision works great using files converted with cucusoft though,never had a problem. just takes a while longer,and you now have a video that is 4 gb taking up space.sorry for the lack of help.

 

I had use nero vision express to create dvd-video and create save it as image files and then brun the image file to dvd. I have done with many, now some when opening some old image files (1 or 2 weeks old) nero rom claims that it's a foreing image file and a window of foreing image settings appear at the beginning I dno't now what to do why it doesn't recognice my image files created all of the with NVE? please help me

 

I too was having the transcoding error with absolutely no error msg.

Nero's email support is worse than terrible. Every time I email them a quesiton about anything, I get a generic 'your capture card is not supported' email. It always ends with the words 'The process is very time consuming'. I find this to be odd since 1) my capture card (9600 all-in-wonder) is supported very well, and 2) my problem has nothing to do with capture. But I guess it's easier to send out a generic email rather than actually read what the customer is asking.

I finally figured out that what was causing the transcode to crap out was the fact that one of my animated buttons contained a transition effect that NVE did not like. I simply changed the transition effect and went into Edit Movie mode and clipped off the first few seconds from that chapter and it created the disc successfully. Just thought I'd share that and pat myself on the back for figuring out something (after hours of troubleshooting) that Nero was unable to assist with.


Does anyone know if there is a way to configure NVE 3 not to stop capturing when it comes to a portion of static on the tape? It stops recording and says that recording is disabled because no signal was detected. I have to record every tape in segments because NVE stops recording at static. Other capture apps that I've used will continue to capture the static.

The NVE log file shows a write error. So it's not a problem during encoding.

And in the NVE log file, there is a section where it detects the last possible address to be written, and the last address that will be written for this project. And what worries me is that it shows a 0MB, and I'm sure your AVI file has some size to it.

Have you tried writing just to the Hard Drive to see if that works first? If it does, then try with a different brand of DVD media to see if that resolves your write error.

OnePost, thanks for the info. I also found, more often than not, NVE2 does not 'like' some of the 3D transistions.

So now i should buy new empty dvd's to burn on and try it again with NVE3?

 

I had to update my Nero so I can take advantage of dual layer recording. Now that I have I am having problems burning edited mpg files where before I did not. I have read much of this thread and I have applied the "patch". Still getting error: **Can't create disc strutcture**.

Also getting this in the error log:

hi, craig been a long time since i posted my error log to your e mail but no reply! is this because you dont know the problem of did you just forget?? refresh...... comp stops when encoding movie files or i get error msg. tried with many movie files in different types of format, so know its not them.

please help

Something I discovered today:

I have been trying to burn a music video DVD from an mpg file I DL'd using my Hauppauge card. I have burned litterally hundreds this way. However, once I upgraded to all of the latest Nero software from their website I am again having the "burn" problem I (and many others) had before (I was using Nero Ultra 6.3.1.10 with NVE3 and having NO problems). But I need the ability to burn dual layer discs and Nero's website said that the new software/update fully supported this. Once I did the update I started having problems. I also installed the "patch" previously mentioned in this thread. After much "experimenting" I discovered that if I tried to create a start-up screen using a back ground other than the "Island" background it would burn all the way to the end and then stop, giving me an error log like I mentioned in an earlier post. Thankfully I had a DVD-RW disc so I didn't waste any discs. But this happened 4 times before I tried to create a project where I left the "Island" background as is and only changed the font and header/footer for the project. Low and behold I have now burned 3 DVDs using the latest Nero updates.

Though I no longer have the AVI burning issue many here have I am still disappointed in that I can't download and use other background from Nero. I can't even use a blank background, Island only...
