Hey everyone, I just purchased a HP 300i DVD Burner. He's my question: It just burns DVD+R & DVD+RW. Is this ok for a newbie like myself? I just read some articles on this site on the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R, and I'm not sure if I want to keep this burner. Any input would be appreciated. Thnaks

There's nothing wrong with your burner. The only advantage of a dual-format burner over yours is it gives you the flexibility to try both formats to see which works best in your stand alone DVD player, PS2, XBox etc.

+R is a fine format and with quality discs from Ritek, TDK or Fuji you should have good results. The +Rs I've burned have played fine in 7 of the 8 DVD players I tried them in. Remember, the key is quality media.

If your burned discs refuse to work in your player then you may want to look at a dual-format burner and trying the -R format which has a slight edge in compatability with standalones.
