Can anyone tell me if there are some decent laptops out there for around $700-800? What brand would you recommend?

The reason for dell getting a bashing is because some of there cheaper computers don't work well but Dell's good computers are very good indeed;it's like "Mercedes",there cheap cars can't compare with there exspensive cars, but to make money they've made some cheaper cars.

if they hve any in the price range, why not HP?

don't forget that a computer is a computer,it works or it doesn't, whether it's first or second hand.

you can get a nice laptop for the money that you are wanting to spend, i bought a nice dell for $599.00 amd turion64 2.0 igbrm 60gbhd 256video card 15.4 screen wi-fi card, with the price wars going on right now you can get a great deal, just do a google search and go to some sites and take your time, you might try going to bensbargains.com it is a good site for some good deals on all kind's of stuff mostly computor stuff, one thing that you don't want to get sucked into is the extended warenty, good luck

    thanks ill keep lookin around

I came up with this from dell for $749

    AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-56
    Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Basic
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife™
    1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
    120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (Integrated)
    Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)

or i think $699 for the TL-50 processor instead of TL-56

Does that look like a pretty good deal?
