try a dvdr- made by Verbatim . Dvd rw's cost to much. RW means you can erase it and record over agin . Sometimes they go bad it happens alot. I would just use Verbatim DVDR's they can be found everywhere about 14.00 or 15.00 bucks don't pay 30.00 bucks look for them on sale. do you know what kind of dvd burner you have ?

to make a backup of your movies you need DVD Shrink (free) DVD Decrypter (free) Ripit4me (free) Fixvts (free) Imageburn (free) Anydvd not free it runs in the background to fool your PC so it won't read the Encryptions these movies nowdays are full of them they do not want you to make a copy. now I want you to go to the Guides a do a little homework they will show you how to set up and run these programs and you will be a pro in no time

Here are 2 Guides that can BackUp any dvd out there, Plus they are all Freeeeeeeeee

    GUIDE 1 = DVDFab(to Rip to HDD) + VobBlanker(to fix structure)(not always needed) + dvdSrhink(to compress) + IMGburn(to burn)

    GUIDE 2 = RIPIT4ME = dvd decrypter+FixVTS+dvdShrink+IMGburn
Has a 1-Click mode and a wizard mode

Guide 2 is very easy to follow i would suggest that one.

Guide 1 deals with DVDFab(free) not the dvdFab platinum
Did u pay for that or is it a free trial?

actually i went to dvd copy advance and joined for 50.00. this gave me access to dvdfab, dvd shrink and dvd decrypt. there are others for doing other things. i had some luck with the three programs, but trouble with the disc i have. anyway, i uninstalled and just updated the dvd fab to the platinum, free trial, it was supposed to do everything without another program. i am going to the store today to get some verbatim dvd r, and then will install the shrink and decrypter again. and others mentioned. i hope to be a pro at this soon,

Burn baby burn, next you need Ripit4me and FixVTS they run together Dvd Shrink and DVD Decrypter you will need these programs (all Free) to burn the new sony movies like Saw 3 ,Casino Royale, etc. AD has guides on these too

what movie are you trying to burn ? Maybe try some old movies first untill you get the hang of it, the new Sony movies are a little harder to copy

    Hi granny58,
Here's a quickie Platinum "Movie Only" guide... No other programs needed. This should work on the majority of new movies. You can always try Ripit4me if this fails. I'm testing the trial version of this program and like it. It is a bit expensive though.

Quickie DVDFab Platinum "Movie Only" Guide.

Open the program and find your movie in the top menu browser box and set your target in the one below that.

Put your blank in the target drive listed.

Setting the target size to the type media you are using will tell DVDFab how much to compress. In this case, a single layer DVD-5:

You can select any of the options on the left. The top two are the easiest.

A Full Disc backup includes everything. You pay for this with lowered quality on larger movies. In this case a rather low 55%:

For this movie I want just the main movie so my quality will be better. I don't need the trailers or extras. I'll watch the original if I really need to see those.
Select Main Movie on the left. Notice that selecting just the main movie improved the compression number to 80%:

On the left, only the main title is selected so that's all that will be on the DVD. You can see all the many other titles being eliminated.

The screens on the right shows a breakdown of the audio languages and subpictures on the original. Lets get rid of a few of them. Uncheck the unwanted stuff:

Once that's done, take another look at the compression number. Much better!

It's time to set up the burn. Click the Settings icon:

    Then click the text box:

On the left, click "Write" to open the write settings menu:

Set your burn speed to 1/2 the rated speed of the media you are using:

Select OK to exit and go back to the main screen.

All that's left to do is to press Start.

I'n a few minutes your "movie only" copy will be finished.

i tried the dvd decrypter, shrink, dvdfab, ripit4me and fix it. didn't have any luck at all. so i uninstalled, and reinstalled dvd fab platinum. followed directions exactly, and it still won't write. i thought maybe my dvd writer wasn't working but have checked it out and it says it is working properly. my burner is a vob burner. and its strange because my sonic program i used to use all the time is acting up too. any suggestions?

If several different programs all fail to write then it's a good bet the problem is not with the programs.
How did you check your drive?
You may want to try a firmware update for your drive...
    Official HP firmware.

Is this a Dell or what kind of computer do you have?
