newbie questios

    couple of newbie questions, I'be only bought a couple of dvds so far. What do they mean by "amnamorphic format"? Also, aspect ratio of 2.35:1 means the width in relation to height, right? Do different movies have different aspect ratios? I just ordered a DVD of Planet of the Apes and I saw this stuff in the list of specs. Actually its 2 dvds, seemed worth getting for all the stuff that's on them.

    Aspect ratio is normally either 4:3 (normal TV) or 16:9 (widescreen TV). There are other aspect ratios as well (most of the movies are originally filmed in even wider format than widescreen TV can show without adding black lines).

    Some guides with pictures should explain this (and various methods that studios use in order to fit widescreen picture in 4:3 TV) better:
