Is there a place I can download the program at? (It did say use add/remove programs).

I see now, when the new HDD cloned the old HDD, it lost this windows volume control program and that is the problem, what a pain.

I found these directions in windows forums:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319095

    This addresses my problem!

Okay, I sent you a pm because it is easier for you to give me the file than extract it myself, thanks a lot guys!

Please send it asap, I gotta go to work soon and want to watch anime after a 12 hr day of work.

Shove it in C:\Windows\system32, overwriting the version that's already there.

The file you sent me is sndvol32.exf, is this the right file (I thought it was .exe)?

I stuck it into the right folder and It is still telling me the volume control program is not installed.

Read what I said in my private message, I have to rename it exf so it gets past security filters. The file is safe, I've virus scanned it, but email programs won't usually let you send .exe files as attachments, just as a precaution.

Maybe I should just go back to a system restore point?

Everything seems to be working fine except I have no sound what so ever.

Maybe I should just go back to a system restore point.

You use a Soundblaster live, that has some of its own software right? What happens when you try using that?

Your sound card is a SoundBlaster Live! Series. They usually come with their own software to control them, not just the windows volume control. Do you have anything in your Start->Programs under the name 'Creative'
if not, reinstall the sound card using the CD. If you don't have it, you should either pay Creative to send another, or download the basic drivers from the site.

I restored my comp to last week, didn't help any.

Yes, there is an option in my creative to restore defaults, should I use that?

I'm going to bed for now, this is really depressing.

How does sound just go away from a computer?

    When files go missing.
Lol it sounds like one of those discovery channel programs "when files go missing 3"
Joking aside though, it's annoying, and I've been there too before, so I know how it feels.

I am only working 8 hrs today, so I will probably have time to try again tomorrow.

Creative diagnostics didn't notice anything wrong.

I'm probably going to go all through all of this crap to find out my sound card or speakers are busted.

    Its so depressing!
