Newbie video editing

Hi...sorry if this is the wrong place...looked the most relavent to my needs. I'm breaking into video editing....what I would like to be able to do is.....take frames from one video....transition them into a few frames of another video...and back and forth till Ihave the movie I want. I have "video explosion" but can't seem to figure out how to do it....easily. Is there another software I should look into. I also want ot be able to add the music after the editing. Thanks.
