This drive dates back to 2004. I wouldn't even bother with it. For about 25 bucks or less you could have a new hassle free burner.

A DVD-R cannot be booktyped. It may be more compatible with your players but as I said a new burner is cheap.
Should you ever want to burn DL discs, you'll want to use Verbatim +RDL and you'll want to have a burner capable of booktyping and giving a good burn.

Just thinking out loud.. nobody has suggested doing a read/verify run test or cleaning the laser..

This error seems to be a symptom of a drive which is having trouble actually reading the disk before starting the burn.

I never bought any LG or lite-on drives.. don't rate them.. never have.. but as far as a generic type error goes this one is a symptom of a drive which isn't reading as it should.

..just buy some DVD-R disks then. You can obviously still use them if you buy a new burner at some point

I'm just a kid, so I don't really understand this very well. Is the burner the dvd drive?

Then how do I get a new one without buying a new computer?

You can just buy a new drive and install it, a simple case of unplug the old one, plug in the new. Imgburn willl just automatically recognise it.
