Can someone please help, I have an Xvid Avi, it plays fine however has no sound - yet i know the file does have sound as it played fine on the pc i downloaded it on. I have installed Divx to get all the codecs but no joy. I have also tried GSpot, but this said that I had the required codec to play the audio - but I obviously dont. Any help would be appreciated.

Use the rendering feature at the bottom of the GSpot window. After rendering it will tell you what codecs should have been able to decode the audio stream. If you don't know what codec you need after that try using a program called [bold]AVIcodec[/bold]. Its results are more detailled and will let you know what codec was used to encode the audio stream. It should be either Mp3 or AC3 based (in an Xvid file). If it is AC3 based then you need to install a good AC3 Direct Show (DS) filter.

The best open-source (free) AC3 DS filter is [bold]Matrix Mixer[/bold] (AC3 filter project).
