i never really had this problem before with nero, but ever since i re intalled xp i started getting errors when ever i burn a dvd etc. So i did some research and some websites said to replace the ASPI files, so i did, and i still got the same problem. Then they said to enable DMA mode, i did that too, and same problem. I uninstalled/reinstalled nero and nothing. i have watsed about 15 discs and im hoping not waste anymore.
i got a log for you guys as well and any help will be appreciated!!

This version of Nero is ancient..try for update here
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

These are horrible discs, I would try some Verbatim or Sony that is made in japan, heres a link concerning CMC mag discs http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544

These need to be on, go here for guide

A couple of things to add here:
check the cables and connections on that burner. It failed to communicate.
I couldnt find firmware updates for this drive;
If you know the drive manufacture, it would help in finding firmware for it. I suspect it is out of date.
Your old version of nero isnt recognizing that drive and the nero update Gwen suggested might help.
Also, even though you are only burning a CD, 48x burning is too fast. I dont go over 16x on CD burns.
All you have to do is look at my sig pic to see what i think about CMC discs. :)

first of all thanks for replying.
i just installed the nero gwendolin posted, i tried to burn a data cd using Memorex Cd-rs and the same thing happened. Also my dvd rw drive is an EMPREX make i recently flashed the drive with the latest firmware available. i got the log for this attempt so hope this will give some clues to whats wrong!

As explained by both myself and MaxBurn, these are possibly the WORST discs you can use, they are made by CMC Mag..change them and then see how things go.
BTW..Did you read the link I provided about your discs.

Your image didnt make it on the first post because you had in caps and they should be lower case. The linked pic showed the communication error stopped you again. You will need to fix that, or nothing will work. The computer cant talk to the drive. Check the cables to the burner on both ends, burner and controller/or motherboard. The IDE ribbon cable might be defective, or came loose at one end or the other.
Sense Key: 0x04 (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)
The drive could also be defective. Check the cables first.
You can also try running Nero Info Tools and see what it reports back.
These discs
Disc Manufacturer ID: AML.....
are not the greatest in the world either. Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs are all i will use, and i recommend you try one of those. Of course, we have to get the comm failure fixed or nothing will work. The cable might not be it, as the thing did booktype to DVD-ROM and there had to be some communication to the drive for that to happen.
Also try uninstalling your burner drivers to fix the DMA problem, and it might straighten up the communication problem.. Might. I suspect you have a major hardware error going on.
You are doing a multi-session disc in these logs, and those are not finalized.
Finalize CD : FALSE
Multisession : TRUE
Multisession type: : Start multisession
That keeps the disc open for more data to be added later. Until you close the disc, it will not be able to be read by stand alone players.
Just for grins, try running Nero Info Tools and check all the tabs to see if it is reporting any conflicts. Installing a new ASPI over an old one can cause problems if some of the old ASPI files are still there. Info tool should report back on any conflict going on.
Your drive is being recognized by Nero now, and it wasnt on the first log. We are making some progress.
I am not sure what this thing is
Adapter driver: <IdeChnDr> HA 1
but it may have to be replaced with a windows driver. I know NVIDA drivers have to be removed to get Nero to work.
and your DVD ROM drive can be updated to 3G24 at least.

I still cant find a firmware listing for that EMPEREX drive. I found it.. It is EMPREX, not EMPEREX and the A091 looks like current for that drive. (had to go to the emprex site to find it).

thank you gwendolin and MaxBurn for all your help, i managed to fix my problem by replacing the IDE cable and installing the newest version of nero, and hopefully i won't get the same problem in the future!!

@roshy
Yeah! Glad you got it fixed. That hardware error in the log was pointing to the drive or cable, but we never know for sure until you report back. Thanks for letting us know what happened. Always go with the cheapest troubleshooting things first: software, media, cables, hardware. You did it right, and saved yourself from buying a new burner, though i always buy the hardware first to justify fixing an error, when all i really wanted was a new burner. :) Strange thing is, i live alone, so i am trying to hide my real motive from myself.. Huh? Oh well, fixing your problem is much easier than fixing what goes on in my head.. LOL

May your lasers burn brightly! (kinda like may the force be with you)
