i just got a new Lg 42" LCD tv and a Panasonic SC-pt750 surround sound system. the system will give 5.1 sound with movies but not with cable. i looked into it and found that i would need to attach a optical cable from my rogers digital cable box to the reciever, however there is no optical audio input on the back of the reciever.
i was wondering if anyone was encountering the same problem, and if there is anyway to get around it.

Not to my knowledge. If there is a digital coaxial output on the cable box and a digital coaxial input on the receiver then you could do it with a digital coaxial cable.

Man, sounds like you either have a 40 dollar receiver or it's about 15 years old. Time to upgrade!

    Whats the model number?

It has to have a optical input, you must be missing it.
Take a closer look, the optical inputs will have a little door or cap in front of them.

    Let us know.

Yea, what's the model number? Is it one of those "all in one" units? That could be the case, but I still think most receivers these days have at least an optical input on them.

I checked it out, sorry didn't realize it was a all-in-one system.
I can't see anyway of doing it, it looks like the only one in that series of panny units is the SC-PT1050, which has optical input.

Maybe you could exchange it for that model.

    Good Luck.

Looks like the thing has HDMI on it. Does your digital cable box have an HDMI output? If so, you can use HDMI for true 5.1 sound.

I thought that too for a second, But the HDMI is for output only.
