HI,Well this where i am at with my internet connection problem,i am like a cat with 5 mouse holes and only 4 paws.
On the BIOS issue i can into it and start and stop some things, change order of start up,but i think i am missing one step and that is where you can get into the BIOS and add and delete different items as long you remember to keep track of what you did, like turning off board LAN so addon card can work if thats whats needed.
The reason i bought add on internet card was it was suggested as a work around for a possible burnt LAN CHIP.
Now this item probably does not have much to do with my current problem but when i start up my PC i show both HDD'S as being MASTERS so i pulled both HDD'S out and looked them over the possibility that i had a SLAVE and MASTER problem but did not see any way to change the SLAVE and MASTER settings unless this is in the portion of BIOS i have not been able to access yet and i know its there unless you only see it in WINXP.
I thought the burnt LAN CHIP may have been caused by the 3 quick power failures we had which happened in a matter of seconds and not tripping surge protector.

Well i hope i am not getting the cart before the horse, but i went REVO UNINSTALLER and totally removed AVAST from
my PC and so far i far i have a internet connection and the only way i found out about AVAST having a firewall was by
accident when i tried to disable said firewall i could not locate where it was at.
Revo said to restart PC to totally remove any and all remnants of AVAST,clicked on FIREFOX icon and i came in a blink of an eye doing updates right now just need to keep fingers crossed,GUESS WHO WILL NOT BE ON MY PC.

now, ddp you know that whiskey is not going to stay away. lol
@whiskey99, I'm really happy you found the internet problem.. dam, I guess I would have never thought it could be Avast but then I'm too cheap to buy the paid version and my free doesn't have a FW.

get your updates and let us know whats going on.. Do you still have the "not genuine" flag???

Well like i have said before when it comes to problems with PC'S it is usually simple and stupid stuff that gets you just like i tell my son greed will get you every time.
I overheard my son talking to other family members about having me committed because of this PC problem that would not go away and so far i have not seen anything about not having a legit copy of WIN7 have all updates so far downloaded
it sure was an educational experience tho.

So glad you got it worked out, before you were committed... Sometimes the simplest things can drive you to the funny farm. lol

WOW! I just got protected from a browser exploit:

    Capture.PNG

That's a part of my Layered Protection and it works like a champ.........
