walmart might have it & usually standard size as yours is. 1 end of the cable might have more ends on it as for various sound connector configurations but will have the ends you need to hookup
does this mean anything i just ran sisoft sandra with dvds in both drives both say volume is compressed.........no and volume is read only .......yes
can you try the drives on another computer 1 at a time to see if 1 or both drive's sound section is toast or part of your sound card is toast
well i finally was able to play the burns on a real dvd player outside of my cpu. Threw em in my ps2.....we got sound? So its got to be something inside my computer.....thinking maybe sound card...but if thats the case wouldnt i get no sound at all even when i play mp3s on my speakers?
it is 50/50 whether soundcard or rom drives as rom drives haven't been tried on another computer, correct??
correct but i just got my dvd burner less than 2 weeks ago, and i did initially have the sound cord hooked to that so im HOPING it wouldnt be the drive so only way to find out is to put one drive in a diff cpu see if i get sound?
do it with both drives but 1 drive at a time, process of elimination. strong possibility is the motherboard soundcard is the problem but not certain
ddp how do u take a snapshot of what ur screen looks like print screen right? I want to show u an error message i get when i initially burn my dvd after the decrypter/shrink it says something bout volume being locked...i hit ignore and it still works for the dvd, i bet that has something to do with my troubles let me know
i think it is print screen tho haven't used it yet. as for dvd burning, i haven't used it so i'll pm creaky in the nero forum about the volume locked
if this is a fairly new PC you don't need all those little grey audio cables any more to the optical drives, sound just goes thru the PCI bus i think..... still reading thru the posting...
i dont know how to post it so u can see so i put it on my server... its a word doc but it shows the error i get i hit ignore and the dvd burns fine http://dusty.tecmoworld.com/dvd.doc i hope that link works
right - volume locked sounds like this - http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y178/creaky/untickcdrecordinginXP.jpg
i built my cpu about 3 years ago id say..but the dvd burner is brand new and dvd rom drive is bout 1 year old i figure
cor i'm psychic - that screenshot i posted is what you were on about. cool. right...back to the sound problem
Hi, Just a quick note. If you are running XP-Pro w/SP-2 you don't need the audio cable. Try and un-plug the audio cable and see if the headphone jack works. If it is reversed, it may knock out all the audio. Try an original commercial DVD and see if you have sound at the headphone jack. Some copy programs are tricky when it comes to sound. I recomend DVD Shrink 3.2 with Nero 6.0 installed. Be careful what you turn off. I prefer to re-author and copy only the main movie. Again, be careful as some DVDs have both full screen and wide screen on the same disk so there will be a couple of main movie titles. Good Luck, Russ
Hi again, I forgot! Go to sounds in the control panel. Make sure that the icon is turned on in the taskbar. Double click on the taskbar icon and a window will open top left. Make sure both the wave and midi are turned up fully as with XP the volume controls for the CD do nothing. Make sure that the mute is unchecked and move the slider all the way up. Sincerely, Russ
yes i run sp 2 so the audio cable i dont need? And then see if my headphone jack works on my dvd rom drive is what ur saying right....and i did check the volume control that was the first thing i checked thanks
theonejrs, the cable is reversed in what way?? also has nothing to do with xp or sp2 as i've had board work with an audio cable & without in win9x so is not windows specific.
