I don't know if it needs to be unlocked or what not. When i enter the sim card it is asking for a restriction code. I am not sure if that is the same as unlocking it. Thank you for your help

i have cingular and i have a cingular sim card. i think i entered a wrong puk code and then my sim got fried. so i went to get a new one. they gave me one but when i put it in it is asking for a restriction code. Don't know what to put and cingular doesn't know what code it is. i don't need it to be unlocked just need it to work again.

Exactly what do you see on the screen when you turn it on with the sim in?

    Well that's odd.
    Like YesYou suggests--
    Sounds like it's hardlocked.
You can try this but It may be a waste of time.

( ) Put in a SIM from a new Network.
    Your code:Try this [bold]once and once only.[/bold]

    #pw+757020673512236+1#

    To enter code:
    Make sure battery is charged.
    Power on.

Select UNDO with NEW SIM in phone.
    Press the # key.
then press the "star" key (*) quickly to get the P and W and +
    Press * 3 times quickly for (p) \
Press * 4 times quickly for (w) IMPORTANT
    Press * 2 times quickly for (+) /
and the rest of the code---
Begin with # and end with #.

    IMPORTANT!!
Verify code before pressing the last #.
Pay attention. You only have about two seconds.

    "Phone restrictions off", it's unlocked.
"Error code" wrong code. [bold]STOP[/bold] tell me.
"Not allowed" or "Can Not Undo Restriction" it's hard locked.
Used up all your free tries!!

[bold] If it does not work, tell me: What happened? What message
you got. What codes you rtied.[/bold]

When i enter the code it says phone restricted. and i can't do anything. But if i turn it off and on i can enter a new code. If the sim card is out it says cannot undo restriction.

PS: i am not trying to unlock my phone so i can use it with another carrier. I accidentally played around with the settings and when i turned my phone on it was asking for this code.

A hard locked phone will still work on the original Service Provider.
I have no idea what yout problem is.
    "Phone restrictions off", it's unlocked.
"Error code" wrong code. [bold] STOP [/bold] tell me.
"Not allowed" or "Can Not Undo Restriction" it's
hard-locked. Used up all your free tries!!

Someone has entered too many wrong codes before you
came to us. You only get 3 to 5 tries.
If you enter the same code two times, that is two tries.

    Your phone is hard-locked.
You will need to take it to a phone shop that has the
    equipment to unlock it.

Have a look at this. It is the first Thread on this Forum.

acquainted with it and the work they do there.

    They are many.

I just found this out today! The Nokia 6230 is a 2 Gen (generation) phone, if you have a new verson of your sims card which may be a 3 Gen. Your phone won't work with your newer verson sims card!!!! That makes sense, right!? Let me know if this helps you!
