    Hi MBE,

Thanks for sending that on - as mentioned before though, my current issue is not with my box freezing, it is the bit about getting stuck with a certain stage of sorting out this problem with the codes.

    My earlier thread explains.

    Thanks.

more info on that would be helpful!

I'v been manually putting in keys since Tues on my Sagem Dbox2 (thats all I know bout the box)seems to me the keys needed changing once a day, put the new key in yesterday at 6PMish and still OK 11PMish Friday (rebooted 4 times, no problems)

I rescanned channels 3 times when the box first went of so whoever thinks this is the problem is wrong, im always able to find the channels (the scan tells you how many channels/data/radio you get at the end ), its the key file thats out (bad key rolled by VM or whoever)
I get the new keys from this site (no need for browser toolbar like Bigmaq though there is nothing wrong with the Bigmaq :)...)
    Code:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/528527
3/4 of this thread needs deleting btw, all info is in the 1/4 that would be left :), just a thought

seems to me that editing your keylist PROPERLY then double checking it once done (ie: rebooted) works most times, also i havent turned off AU cause no one seems to know how to do it properly (except for the write protect thingy, surly this method only protect the current key, AU makes a new key each rollout)wouldnt the channels go if AU wasnt enabled anyway??

    just my thoughts :)

get the proper codes for your area and try this Guide to changing the Key codes on Nokia D box via remote control

If the D Box goes down and the only channels you have left are RTE 2, TV3 , Channel 6 etc., don’t do a service scan, if you do you will lose most of your channels and it makes it more difficult to get them back.

NOTE: When I refer to scroll in text below, I mean using the Toggle buttons that are around the OK button on the remote control, the button below the OK you use to scroll down, the one above use to scroll up and down, the buttons to the left & right you use to move left & right. If you make a mistake and you want to go back to the start, press the home button and don’t save changes. To get started follow instructions below:

    1
. Press the blue button and you will be in the features menu, scroll to Tuxbox Commander, press OK.

You should now be looking at the files on the D Box.

    2
. Scroll to VAR and press ok, If you don’t see VAR, scroll to <DIR> & press ok, if you still don’t see VAR scroll to the next <DIR> and press ok, keep doing this until VAR appears on the screen!

    3
. When you find the VAR file and you press OK, scroll to Keys & press OK

    4
. Scroll to Keylist.txt and press 4 on your remote control! It is important that you don’t press OK when you scroll to keylist.txt , you must press 4 in order to edit the code that will appear! If you pressed OK in error , just press the Home button and start again.

    5.
After pressing 4 you should be looking at a screen with /var/keys/keylist.txt at the top, 4 or 5 codes in the middle and numbers 1 to 9 at the bottom.

    6.
Now you need to scroll to the code that you are going to change, e.g old code is as follows:

    N 5401 00 1AC4BB2D468053FB ;ROM7 AU Key Time Tue Apr 9 17:56:46 2008
    N 5401 01 ABBA68DDBB24DFFC6 ;ROM7 AU Key Time Tue Apr 9 17:49:14 2008

We are only changing one digit this time, in future you may have to change more digits.

    7.
When you have have scrolled to code you want to change press OK, When you press OK, the code becomes slightly larger and the first digit changes colour to red, this is now your cursor!

    8
. Scroll to the digit you want to change, and then use the numbers on your remote to change that digit to whatever character you want, e.g. if you want to change the digit to 3 , you press the number 3 button four times until 3 appears, the press ok. The same would apply if you want to change it to 4, you press the number 4 button on your remote four times and press OK.

    9
. When you have changed the digit to the new one, press the Home button, it will ask you do you want to save changes, if you are happy with the new change, scroll to yes and press OK.

    10
. You should now have changed the code, to get back to the TV screen, press home.

    11
. In order for the changes to work you need to reboot, press the D box button and scroll to reboot and press OK. When it reboots you channels should be back

It may not be the yellow button on your screen, it was on mine. Choose whichever colour allows you to deactivate the updates. Once it says "deactivated" that step should be done. Then you can proceed.

I hope that doesn't happen because some have explained processes and solutions much more meticulously than others. Other members have plugged loads of holes ie included missed out info etc. In the last three days I have read and learnt so much from this forum that I actually feel like I am ready to design and build my own cable box.
To all the new - take time out to read over some earlier posts and you will find all your solutions here - trust me they are here!!!
Big thanx to everyone that have posted solutions, assistance and help here - it certainly helped me and a few friends.

Updating keys in pure Telewest area, in Kent

Thanks all for the help in finding new keys.

It may help if I tell how I edited keylist.txt using FTP.
I find that changing file contents with the remote is a bit of a pain!

Firstly I copied the new key from the BigMAQ toolbar and wrote the 16 characters into notepad. This was 6F9BA23250673657

Second, I FTP'd into my dbox2 and found the keylist.txt file and edited it in a new notepad file. (User = root, password = dbox2)

I changed the 16 digit code, the date and also changed the 01 that was before the code into 00. You can see I changed the file at Time Sat Apr 12 03:08:45 2008

I saved the keylist.txt file and rebooted dbox - hey presto.

My working keylist.txt file now looks like this:

    N 5A01 00 6F9BA23250673657 ;ROM7 AU Key Time Sat Apr 12 03:08:45 2008
    N 5A01 01 27CACE921CF8523E ;ROM10 AU Key Time Wed Jan 9 05:19:05 2008
    N 5A01 01 B5AA582D645EE105 ;ROM10 AU Key Time Wed Apr 9 21:04:01 2008
    N 5A01 01 6A905C9767CDA891 ;ROM10 AU Key Time Fri Apr 11 01:29:01 2008

Thanks for all the other folks who pointed me at the change and solution.

Funnily enough, the only channel that was available before updating keys apart from the BBC and Virgin offerings was 285, Gay TV - I guess that is nice of them!!

    Have a nice day!
