scan used to work and on a good box I borrow from a m8,
    Continued BER is 60
    SNR 40000 odd
SIG 50000 odd all without the cable connected
    BER 30
    SNR 60000 odd
SIG 43433 all with cable connected

    on mine
    BER 4232
    SNR 34400
SIG 62753 all without or with the cable connected

so I think the tuner is broken. Anyone agree?

Stay on the minimum package or subscribe to cable internet.. This ensures your feed remains live..

No problem. There are some useful guides around as well, and the ones I found useful when I started out I've put together for convenience, you can download them here: http://www.ifawilson.com/downloads/Dbox/Dbox2.rar.exe

    Can anybody help me?

I've read through this thread and it pursuaded me to get a Nokia Dbox2. It arrived as plug and play but no matter what I try I keep getting Error - no channels found. I asked my mate to try at his house (he gets telewest I get NTL) and it picked up the channels.

Has anybody any idea why I cant pick channels up as obviously the box is OK. I've tried with all other things (PC etc) switched off so that nothing interfered with the signal....am I missing something?

The only thing ive noticed is that where the broadband connection is presented it goes into a small box (like a splitter) called a TV/DATA ISOLATOR - could that be anything to do with it?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

From my experience these boxes are rarely plug & play more plug & scan then play! have you tried doing a manual scan?

Press Dbox button then service then scan then start scan. Try that first.

Hi, do as daweorama said and if still no good, post back stating specifically what you've tried and how you're set up..

Sorry - my mistake. When I said plug and play I did mean exactly what daweorama says, I.e. plug, scan then play.

I've tried manually scanning a number of times but got no channels each time, whereas my mate has found channels at his house. In manual scanning i've got the settings as stated in liamcrayden's "manually scanning for channels" guide and have tried both Sym6952 and Sym6887 without success.

My home setup is that I'm on the base NTL TV package with 2MB broadband.

I've tried connecting directly to the broadband connection without a splitter, and I've tried with a splitter. I've also tried connecting directly to the TV connection (instead of the NTL cable box).

On the thread somweher I remember something about signal strength...could I be suffering from somthing like that and, if so, what do I do about it?

Perhaps instead of me thinking of things I should leave it to you experts out there to suggest things !

Do you need any more information?

I got mine from a very popular online auction site and it arrived in double quick time. Unfortunately, as you will see, it works at my mates house but not mine. I think the fault is not with the Nokia itself though.

As with all purchases from unknown people - make sure you check the feedback on them before purchasing.

I got a bit 'screwed' on the auction site, I beleive the seller was bidding against me as the price went stupid.
learnt my lesson and next time won't go over a set price
    anyway
good luck with your box mate, hope you get it going

    Techfail,

The splitter is not important as long as its a digital one allowing digital signals to come through and not one of the old anolouge ones. I assume you have broadband so this will be a digital one and you should be ok. My box works with or without the splitter. Im on telewest aswell but i do know people who have successfully used the dbox with NTL only the channel freq will be different the signal is essentially the same. When you do a scan how long is it taking a full scan and not a quick one should take at least 20 mins. Make sure you have fast scan off. Oh and ive been buying boxes for around 90GBP inc p&p from Germany.

    daweorama,

I've made sure that fastscan is off and it takes about 10 - 15 minutes. My mate said it took 1 hour with my box when he tried it on his telewest broadband line. The frequency seems to jump in quite large chunks when it's doing the scan - perhaps indicating that it's actually doing a fast scan but I've definately got the fast scan option turned off.

I've had a PM saying that my signal might not be strong enough and I might need a booster which sounds plausible - do you think that could be the reason?

    Techfail,

Well if the signal is strong enough for your broadband then i would think its ok. its not as if there isnt enough signal for both broadband and tv as you have said youve tried it with the broadband modem removed. If it wasnt working at your mates id suggest changing the image file but not sure this would fix it in this case. What image do you have out of interest?
