    this is the situation:
have disabled my other cd writer. the lite on is the slave.
i have made sure that i'm not connected to the internet while burning and that nothing else is open on my computer. i don't touch the mouse or anything. the media that i have been using is ridata 8x dvd-r before that it was some cheap dvds 200 for 39.00.

last night i downloaded supersize me.rmvb
watched it on the computer with no problems. i converted it to dvd using winavi. i then burnt it with nero 6.3.0.3. at 4 x . i put it into my home dvd player a magnasonic sa-ht80. after 7 minutes the dvd stopped. i used nero tools this morning and it said that i was missing aspi files. found them downloaded them and went back to nero tools and it said it was fine. so i burnt the same movie again. this time i got to 12 minutes and it froze. all help is greatly appreciated

    thanks

    Edit it out then...........

Click on the little pen to paper icon in the date/time line of your first post and delete your serial number, as there are people around who scour forums for innocent users who post their serial numbers by accident..............

As for your problem it may just be down to low quality media - what media are you using?

It may also be worth reducing your burn speed to maybe 2x, just to see if this improves anything...............

you should be o/k with your set-up.
instead of giving up I suggest you change your dvdrw.
lite-on not as good as pioneer
you can get a new pioneer 107 8x for about 60 quid
i got one never had a problem.

Some additional suggestions, don't give up yet:

    1) Try first to use a DVD that others have successfully burnt.
    2) Use a rewritable disc to cut down on waste.
    3) Do not do multi-tasks, ask the PC to do the burn job only.
    4) Ask Nero to determine the maximum speed for you.
    5) Set burn job priority to high.
    6) Wait patiently to see how things go.
    Good luck! *_*

Change your dvdrw only as a last resort. There is nothing wrong with lite-ons, they are actually more versatile and forgiving than some other brands eg: you can use kprobe to scan your discs for errors, you can change booktype format to dvd-rom on dvd+r media, and you can flash different firmwares as many times as you want. Lite-on's actually prefer dvd+r media, they use running OPC for dvd-r media. I use ritek dvd+r media (media code ricohjpnr01) and have no problems. If your set top won't play +r media you can always booktype to dvd-rom. Some other suggestions: remove any spyware and defrag hd prior to any rips/burns. Remove the InCD packet that came with nero as it can interfere with some other softwares. Try burning you g04's at 2x. Use only quality media. Stay away from memorex and discount store brand name media. Here's a good media guide. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Poor quality media is the most common cause of freezing. If still no luck try disableing your anti-virus software prior to ripping/burning.

I didn't say there was a problem with lite-on what I meant was there might be a problem with his dvdrw. they aren't as good as pioneer in my opinion and I have had both the pioneer and the lite-on

I assume that your drive is internal (no externally connected) and you burn the DVD from an image file (e.g. ISO file).

Have you upgraded your DVD-Recorder to the latest firmaware version? Have you got DMA enabled? Can you test another high qyality DVD-R such as TY, Maxell, TDK or Verbatim and tell us if it helped at all? Also try another burning utility just for a change to see what happens then...

I hope this might be of some help. Please let us know.

    crysaqt,
You might buy a sample pack of dvd media. Everybodys setup and circumstances are different. If you find something that works well for you stay with it. In the US look here. http://www.meritline.com/
