When I watch the ripped movie on my Hard drive no problems then when I burn and watch it in my standalone its skips like a damn earthquake. Anyone have an clue to why that is?

I second nuklehead's assesment of your issue. There are certain dvd-r brands that skip a lot on standalones (especially during the end of the movie. You should try dvd-r's made by TDK. So far, I've burned 3 movies and have had smooth playback on each of them.
