Thank you. It worked like a charm and I just did my very first disc quality test using Nero CD-DVD Speed. Check this out:

Pretty impressive, huh? I love TY media!
Thanks for the link for QSuite. I'll definately have to check that out.

Nice test results there! Where do you get your TY media from?

I got this batch from Meritline. I've ordered from Supermediastore before as well.

Well, I got my 1650 today and it didn't give me any problems whatsoever. When I installed the drive, I checked the firmware and it seems to be current. It's version BCFC. It was weird not seeing the drive in it's original retail box. It's an OEM drive. It was basically wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap and all it came with was Nero software, which I already have anyway, so it's no big deal. It didn't come with any cables, but that wasn't a problem for me. All in all, it's working great and as always, the shipping was fantastic. Newegg is awesome!

    Hi,
    creaky.
Do you think I should return my 1650 retail to the suppliers then?
Currently the best 16X media is either MCC 03RG20 or MCC 004. The TY 16X appears not to have around long enough for f/w to get the best out of it. I know SolidBurn should to some extent sort this out, but it still early days yet.

@zebadee - i am only going by what i've read about the OEM thing, i may be wrong, plus i've just installed my 1650 and did one burn on a new Yuden000T03 and the blumming thing didn't booktype when it said it was set to booktype. arggh puzzling that out now, and have dloaded newer firmware BCFC but haven't applied it yet. PS i don't buy into the whole quality scanning lark, i just CRC check a few discs when i update software, buy new burner, or buy new discs, then i just burn up a storm and don't look back...

    Hi,
creaky, just my sense of humour the oem/retail thing.
In regards to scanning I believe many get caught up in the figures game. I do a lot simply to try & assess f/w. See if/what problems are resolved using variations in the why drive is flashed. If .exe or.cvt file make any contribution to the end result.
In terms of f/w for the 1650/1655. The original f/w BCAC/BCAB was problematic for some, hence no listing,BCDC/BCDB the current listing should be OK. However sometimes reflashing with this f/w when results aren't what you'd expect can help. The BCFC/BCGB f/w is only listed on site presently. It appears to give mixed results. Personally I love this 'latest' f/w. But there must be a reason why general release has been held back. I suggest trying other media before any flashing. As I implied 16x TY media currently tends to be a bit of a disapointment especially when compared to TY 8x media. My TY 16x has been put aside for now.
