It seems to me since i joined this that there is 1 guy having problems and everyone is trying to help him. Is that what this site is all about helping one problem till it's cured? What a bunch of really nice people you are and patient to i might ad. I would have given up on him awhile ago. I personally don't see where he's helping himself instead of just asking more questions. I almost want to go over to his house and fix the problem for him.
    Just an observation.

lol, sometimes we feel like that, but I must say this is one of my favorite sites. I like to help people out because it makes me more knowledgeable and then I can avoid the same problems. But yeah, some people don't want to help themselves, those people I usually don't respond to.

I have learned about computers since my first one i bought in 1992.

A 386 with no math processor, 1 MB video card and no cd player. A 2 GB hard Drive and a VGA Monitor. What a machine :)I had no choice as i couldn't be dependant on everyone else. I wanted to learn and now i build custom computers and play with all kinds of software to see what is good and easy to use. It's alot of fun but i do find i get frustrated sometimes at the think headed people that don't seem to pick it up after going over the same thing several times. I am especailly suprised i say again at your patients. You have so much patients you could ba a doctor :)Anyway great site if i can help with any problems, i would be glad to put in an effort.

I dont post as much as I used to, mostly because of the sudden increase in the number nutters this site has attracted. But yes, when it works, it works really well. It's also very nice (and much appreciated) when users post a thank you as you have.

You can also meet some of the Afterdawn guys online (un-official IRC channel) It is currently on the stormchat network (address in my sig) If you do not have an IRC client then you can use the Java client (link @ bottom of my sig) created by a couple of the guys in the channel (CoZZa & TRHR)

i usually post quite heavily around here, but backed off at the weekend due to one of those 'difficult' posters. But now i'm back!, well after work anyhow. I post partly to keep the cogs whirring, partly to help, partly to fill in the gaps with things i just wouldn't come across otherwise. I'm 36 yet i feel quite vague sometimes (even at work) so i find that by keeping my brain so busy by posting heavily on afterdawn i remember more stuff; ie instead of me working all day and then just vegging out in front of TV.

@raeww - Hang on, i thought i vaguely recognised your sign-in name. See what i mean about me forgetting things lol. You were party to the thread i just mentioned in my previous reply a minute ago or so (with the *cough* difficult *cough* original poster). I had to dig deep for new kinds of patience on that particular thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197820.

(However re 'patience' i see you might be talking about a different thread, where andmerr was helpsing some guy with 100s of questions).

But to answer your other question - Yes a lot of us are here to try to help and i personally don't mind if i end up on a thread where the person doesn't seem to help themselves. Those threads admittedly are frustrating usually as you have to work so much harder and you feel it's not making a difference, but hey, we all started somewhere.

All i ever want from this kind of person is that they actually supply the info you ask them too, especially as you end up telling them how to supply said info. Which almost brings me full circle as the original poster in the 'difficult' thread just wouldn't supply the info he was asked for, for 'HIS' problem. And it became impossible to progress anything as he decided to lauch a personal attack instead of supplying the info. Even after the attacks died down a bit, a few ppl (even me) STILL tried to help by requesting info.

I've known this for years as i've been around a long time, but some ppl in life just cannot be helped. [bold]But[/bold] the majority of ppl around here are receptive to help and are grateful, i guess regardless of whether their problem gets fixed, a lot of ppl are grateful for the attempts to fix, not just the solution, which makes it all worthwhile at the end of the day

...yup, as i probably overexplained (i have 2 things i do the most - overexplain and go offtopic lol) above, most around here will plug away to the bitter end until a problem is fixed or until it's gone as far as it possibly can

    Hi Again

Yes you had the guy right with the big problem. I tried to offer some advise but i don't think it registered to him. I just didn't want to centre out anyone that why i didn't mention any names when commenting about this site and the patients. He was kinds snoppy to considering everyone was trying to help him 4 FREE. Well anyway it's a good site and i will stay around and check in from time to time and see if i can contribute anything useful
