Sorry aabbccdd again, So I do have a 971H, been very happy w/ it. It only has DVI output. It did come w/ the cable that has DVI on one end & HDMI on the other. I also do have an optical cable going from my 971H to my Onkyo reciever. Would it be an advantage to go w/ the new 981HD instead ? Will the pic. quality be better, since it says it upconverts to 1080p ?
i actually emailed oppo with a few questions and they told me that since I have a DLP, tehy would recommend the 970Hd as the others promote macroblocking. Said this would give me the best picture without any potential problems
Here's the email they sent me...very fast responses and great, imformative answers to all my emails by the way: DLP technology is particularly susceptible to macroblocking, due to the low bit-depth and contrast and brightness ratios. DLP displays primarily use 8-bit processing and an 8-bit PWM scheme on the DMD mirrors, and out of box, most DLPs do not fully utilize their entire range of digital bits (steps between black and white). For this reason, without proper calibration using professional grade calibration discs such as AVIA or DVE, DLP displays will enhance macroblocking and false-contouring errors. Because DLP displays are macroblock enhancing, we would not recommend the use of the OPDV971H or DV-981HD on DLP displays, as the OPDV971H and DV-981HD will macroblock enhance as well. We would recommend the DV-970HD for DLP displays as it will produce a very good picture and will not produce macroblocking errors. The advantages to the OPDV971H and the DV-981HD have over the DV-970HD is the Faroudja de-interlacing and scaling chipset solution. This chipset can produce a better picture by reducing visual errors such as interlacing and aliasing (jagged edges). However, they will increase macroblocking instances on DLP displays.
dabig25, you aren't going to notice a difference between the 1080i and the 1080p not unless your sitting 3 or 4 feet from your set. so i say were fine with the Oppo 971
