    Hey Doc!

Long time no speak, and Congrats on the gettin hitch'd!

Why dont you like the via chipsets? Its not like you have to rely on the mem controller anymore..

And with that wicked memory you have on that naff old ASUS mobo - A7nXE-Deluxe - what timings do you run?

I got some Elixir memory rated at 400Mhz and it wont run in my ASUS or ABIT NF7-S v2, because apparently Nforce2 chipsets are fussy about memory, so I slowed the timings to get it to work.

And hey anyone else bought a mobile athlon and found they arent overclocking like they were?

    hello molks thanks!

hey via dont run on dual channel!! sound storm use by nvidia is way better!!.
i read nforce 2 in 462 platform beat via kt333,kt400,kt600 and via is not that overclocking friendly.
about my mem my current timings are 7-3-3-2.5 they run pretty well. anyway what you´re running now?
hey tell me more about mobile athlons im planning to get one (2500+ m) but ill wait until hearing from your xperience with it!!
thanks nice to talk to you again!!
    lets keep tweaking!!!!

Hey guys, quick question. My cpu is running in the
30-35 degree C range. How is everyone elses doing? am i running cool or what? I dont know about you all but in America, 95 degrees farenheit, which that should be close to, or around is hot! If you could, give me some tips on how to get it cooler if i need to. Thanks guys.

kolanjoku if youre runnig xp2800+ oc and getting 33-35Cº thats really cool!
i have my 2800 at 2.37ghz my temp read from my bios (more accurate) 35-37Cº.

i think your temps in mid 30`s is pretty good
    tips:
    1-big atx case
2-case fans front intake back exhaust or viseversa
    3-artic silver 5 thermal grease(really work!!!)
4-avoid cable mess inside your case!
    thats a few

instead of arctic thermal grease, i have thermaltake thermal grease. I do indeed, have a cable mess, i have everything else though, like the big atx case (A-top Z-Alien Gaming Case). I also have 5 fans in the case, including an exhaust blower. I need to find some way to get the cables out of the way though. I have way too many cables that arent plugged to anything. I may have to spend some time re-wiring things together. Thanks a lot!

    any time man!!
re-wire that let the air circulate free inside your case!

    Cuz Via is dum. :p

Well what timings and voltages were the memory rated for?

Every chip has its own OC ceiling... two identical models may have totally different ceilings :)

Excuse me? Last time I checked the KT880 had dual channel. Furthermore, (1) soundstorm isnt used by all nVidia chipsets (2) soundstorm has essentially been discontinued

    Definitely got that right.

If you want a FSB133 instead of FSB166/FSB200 then go mobile. The only advantage is the drop in heat and perhaps a better OC ceiling differential ... but since you're starting from 133core its kinda moot point :)

You mean the Dow Corning T-340 stuff? (i.e., the stuff that came with the fan?) Its better than the thermal pad that comes with the CPU but not all that great (im guessing 175000W/m²·Cº)

    Oi! Praetor..
Whats going on here? A little dumming down of your reply ;) I am currently not in a position to go 64bit so I dont know much about the competition.

It is not a timings issue. I have read about the quality of the signals from these chips and they are of a lower standard, being a 'cheap' solution for boards that do not feature dual channel. I am now running it at 133Mhz on an underclocked athlon-m 2500 with a vcore of 1.3 at 1333Mhz. (silent; no fan on heat-sink needed!)

I tested with the MeMx86 for 7 runs - a couple of hours, and used lots of other FSB and timing combinations.

I read in another place that newer athlon-m's may not be reaching the same overclocks as before. This may or may not be true, and I was just interested. I have a mobile barton with a good stepping, (IQYHA) and it wont go above 2.4Mhz on air (I can go to 2.5Mhz but when the chip warms up it becomes unstable - prime95 will run for ages but not on full steam! As soon as the temp reaches a threshold it pukes:[]), so as Praetor says each chip has a different ceiling.

A good price and you can easily overclock them to XP3300+ 100% (some better) stable and if you dont need 64bit then they are a good option.

Hehe ... IMO the last good solid good via chipset was the KT333 .. after the nForce2 took off Via has been playing (mostly unsuccessfully) catchup. Via had a breather when nVidia phucked up and made a mess of the nForce3-professional/nFoce3-150 but that's been since addressed :)

I ran a nForce2 board a few months back (the ASUS A7N8X-X) -- certainly not a premier board by any means and I never ran into any timing, clock or stability problems. Hell the board officially says it doesnt support dual-channel and every indication i read stated that it didnt support dual channel ... except when i ran throughput benchies i was scoring 5.9-6.2GB/s -- certainly higher than the PC2700 i was running was capable of ... perhaps it was just a fluke board for me but ive dealt with a whole whacklock of nForce2 boards without much in the way of dissapointment

So are you bashing the A7N8X-X Nforce2 Boards or not? And stop quoting every time, we can scroll or click to see what everyone says.

    Hi kalunjoku,

Erm no ;) are you asking me or him about the ASUS board?

And hey you say you are running at 30-35C. Aren't you the guy who was trying to get 3.0GHz with the open window in the snow storm? How hot was that cpu?

i had the abit nf7 great mobo but won´t let me pass the 2.2ghz with my 2800 xp.

Say, Doc, I have both of those boards. The abit lets me change more settings. The ASUS deluxe is built on an old design, and really is not all that hot. It is stable but not exceptional. Were not all using ASUS you know. It is simply a case of marketing and some companies forming corporate alliances (McoughS).

You mentioned that the abit would not let you go past 2.2 Ghz? Are you sure this is not due to the seasonal temp change affecting your overclock? Were you using the same PSU, and mem timings, heat sink, fan speed, thermal paste etc (was the gravitational perturbation due to planet alignment the same lol)? Im interested to find out how closely you compared the two.. I can do the same thing if I have some spare time.

jajajajaja!! you are right. now that i remember it let me pass but not estable at all. and about options that´s right that softmenu III let you change almost everything... in fact i just switch to this mobo because of the sata and because the price 69 us$.

i of course to have to pc to tweak jejejeje!!.
final: abit nf7 is one of the best mobos overall in the market dont you think?

Holy junk for that price it's good, I paid more for mine. I bought it and took it on the chin since it was badly needed (upgrade - brother trashed a gigabyte) ;[

I bought the abit cheap much later lol.. and it was needed to push my mobile athlon with more vcore! But about being the best.. I doubt it, but many oc'ers think they are ok. I'll let you know..
