Man, your ATI-Radeon can be soft modded to a 9800xt, I've had mine soft modded, ran perfect at xt speeds. I couldn't believe it... So, look up soft modding your 9800 and download the bios for xt and flash your 9800. Presto, you've got yourself and 9800xt... HeHe.

Besides the fact that the case looks terrible, the computer is quite the machine. :)

ok firstly i have a fully unlocked 9800 SE at 412/375 (XT) with all 8 pipes, 256bit bus.. so it isn't that

secondly i have 1.5gb ddr.. so memory aint a problem,
its Kingston 2700 DDR running at 2.5-3-3-7 in dual channel.. now i know your thinking "there is the problem" and yes its a memory crash thing which is fusking annoying... BUT everything else is 100% stable...

steam isn't that bad, games run faster if you cache the shit in ram inatead of on disc... thats the whole idea of ram.
change your heapsize for hl2 or css and it might not use as much ram...

Hl2 only sucks when it's loading. Gameplay and everything else is fast and awesome. And you were right, i was thinking that abotu your memory. How does that 9800se work? I hear some bad things about those cards, a lot of sites say that that card isnt for gaming or anything 3d intensive, but it's ok for other stuff. I would personally take a 9600XT over that one cuz it's clocked faster than the 9800 pro and se and yes the graphics may be a little weaker, but you really cant tell much of a difference unless you're one of those picky people that have to see that everything is perfect. Oh and your 9800SE isnt like an XT. They, like mine have an 8 pixel pipeline for awesome graphics while the 9800se is at 4(good but no XT) and it doesnt operate at a frequency like the 9800 9800pro, or xt. That was all i was trying to say, which may be why Hl2 may not be running up to par like you were saying.

actually the 9800se has 4 pipelines locked..
    which i have unlocked..
it has the R360 core (xt)
    hynix ram (xt)
and it can push XT frequencies which NOT all SE's can do
believe me when i say i have £200~£300 worth of card for about £89 the default clocks are

    324/310 4 pipes 256bit 128mb

    i have it at
    412/375 8 pipes 256bit 128mb

which is an xt setup, since i have an xt (R360) core it's a cheap and chearful little overclock to xt :)
    like i said FULLY unlocked...

    hl2 200fps
    css timerefresh 340fps
    cs1.6 timerefresh 10,000+fps

What is with the Advertisement? LOL.

Dr.xp, a 5200 is a piece of ----. Why in the world would you buy such a thing?

Would of been better off buying a used 4600, or better yet, what I did, and when back to a 9700pro. Since the 9700's still hold its own, even playing Far Cry.

Listen Chief,It isnt an xt if it's at 128 mb. All you did is speed up the core and memory. I have my 9800 pro clocked faster than that. (Thermaltake GiantIII) and those stats...they dont seem all the way acurate to me. Were u standing still when you got 200fps?

Dude, i see pictures, but still you cannot get those fps in cs source UNLESS you are alone in the server(being the only player) the people i work with (We run everything with computers at this college) have awesome computers and my boss has a liquid cooled Athlon 64 fx53 with an X850 PCI 16x also liquid cooled. He has a gig of ram and he only stays in the 150s when there are people in the server. when he's the only one, he reads numbers like yours. Maybe we should get on another forum since this has nothing to do with overclocking 2800's anymore.

with people it stays happily at 80~100+fps...
pics are to prove the XT-age of my SE ;)

but yes with a 180bus after a few minutes it does the memory crash.. which is GAY

ok that sounds more realistic. I was like "how is he getting better fps than me?" i even played last night with people and stayed in the 130's and i was telling people about you and they were like "WHAT!!" I also couldnt understand that because my pro is clocked faster than an xt with my GiantIII (i wish it was liquid like yours) and you were still killing mine. Now we know...

Anyway, I'll ask the guys at work and see what's wrong with the computer crashing cuz of your memory

dr x can i learn some qauntum phyisics off you? lol :p, but anyways i have the same card as you the fx 5200, and i thought mine was amazing, but i cant even get over 60 fps in 1.6 lol, let alone 30 in source. SOOOO im going to spend 500$ for my computer improvement. Which is better then what i planned. (BUYING PSP) lol 2 days lefttttt.

    Hi again,

I am curious about the best oc settings for my bios. I currently have things set for normal use, but I would like to kick it up a bit. I guess i'm ignorant to the proper settings for my latency timings. I currently set the vcore up one step. It runs about 1.72v

Hey dr., like my sig says, I love the value behind my video card. I'm holding out until the value/performance of SLI boards comes down to reality.

As all ways, love all of the time you guys put in to helping others, keep up the good work.

    jag

what kind of ram is is dual channel xms or is it just ordinary single channel ram? if it xms you should be able to run it at 2.2.2.5 i got kingston and mine can handle that up to 180 mhz but the stock setting is 2.3.2.6 at 400mhz but a bud of mine uses xms and it runs 2.2.2.5 at 400mhz np

    Swamp,

I'm off to work, but I will check back. I updated sig. My ram is DDR, nice heat spreaders, etc. I currently see this in my bios:
    cas...lat 3.0
    ras...cas 3
    ras...prechg 3
    tras 8
this is @200 mhz for each chip
I'm just curious as the the most power/stability settings for this chip, or if the best option was the 2800 barton i just upgraded from.

    thanks for the quick reply
