hi i manage to run my 2800 at 2.45ghz no problem im running geil platinium pc-4400 512(2x256) (550mhz) of course just with a p4 i can get my mem running at that speed..

    my settings:
    -cpu interface: optimal
    -fsb:196 mhz
    -vcore: 1.775v
    -memory settings(user define)
*timings: 6-3-3-2.5 (my mem default is 8-4-4-3)
    *mem volt: 2.6
*memory frequency: you can either set it to auto or 120% if you choose the later it will say ruslting freq 200 mhz that is cpu fsb and ddr ratio 1/2 but in my system it work faster when i set it to auto. dont try BY SPD because it never boot when you overclock dont know why? it only work with stock settings.

try that it work pretty good for me this xp2800 is flying!!

i,m pretty sure you could tighten those timings up a bit espially if you are using xms try 2.2.2.6 if it runs ok try tightening to 2.2.2.5 if you can get it to run at those timings it should run sweet i was runing mine at 2.3.2.6 which is stock for 400mhz kingston till i found out you can run it at 2.2.2.5 up to about 185mhz i noticed the diff straight away snappier and more stable good luck let me know

Swamp, why dont you get the newer revision of BIOS for the Asus boards. I don't have rev 1010 but i have 1009. 1010 is just sempron support and i think 1009 is stuff that may be important. I dunno.

hi me again, just to let all u hardcore oc's know bout my new oc..... i just bought one of those a7n8x-deluxe mobo's and firstly tried to oc an unlocked 2500+ to its limits, the limits were 3200+ speeds (400*11) and no more, any higher it was unstable nomatter where the voltage or multiplyer was. so i dumped the 2500+ and stuck in the old faithful, 2800+. before when i posted it was clocked at 2.35ghz (189*12.5) now i have it stable as me nan's zimmoframe at 2.47 (197*12.5).. voltage is at 1.800 and its 53 idle and 61 under full load (abit hot but crappy aero7 on it) this gives me a 3dmark 03 score of 11976 running with 2*512mb DDR400 @ 197mhz and a geforce 6800gt oc'd to 410 core and 1100 memory,,, oh and a 550watt psu. it's getting close to 2.5gig ;-)

    HI again all,

Thanks for the responses. I just got home from the tavern. I will review everything in the AM.

This forum has been the most helpful since I started.

My first puter was an IMB Aptiva, 4mb ram, .87gb HD, 15" crt, 100mhz Pentium. It was a bad mofo.

$2500.00 I played Descent and shit. LOL I paid $380 to go from 4mb of ram to 16mb,heh... It was a lot faster.

I think some of us remember those days.

    Good Times,

    J Bizzle

Hello oballz heat is an important issue in overclocking even your sys is stable but performance is not the same at high temps.

here are a few heatsinks commonly use by overclockers!!:

    http://www.xoxide.com/thvo12.html

this one thw volcano excelent fan 2000-6000 rpm
state of the art fan noisy a max speed but excelent thats the one i have highly recommend it.

    http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-7000b-cu-cpu-cooler.html

zalman is famous for silent cooling is great fan!
has retention clips to attach it to your mobo the asus has 4 holes for that need to remove the mobo to seat it!!

    http://www.xoxide.com/thermalright-si-97-cpu-cooler.html

thermalright are consider among best heatsink in the market accordeing to all the review ive read. no fan included!!

    so hop i help

    Hi,

I have a MSI MOBO (MS-7021) and I just got an AMD XP 2800+ CPU (Barton). I want to OC it, but I've had no luck. It just isn't stable. I tried setting the FSB to 170Mhz, it ran for a few hours, then the OS crashed. The temps are 55c idle, and 61c under a load. These temps are using the stock heatsink and fan. I'm getting a Volcano 12, hoping that will help. I have 5 case fans, and I'm adding two more for a total of (4 front, 1 side, 2 rear, + PS fan). Current system temp is about 43c.
The power supply is 520W. The only other thing I can think of outside of temp, is RAM. I have 2 512MB PC3200 DDR.

Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

I finally decided to overclock my AMD XP 2800+, and ive had tremendous success, in fact so successful im worried:

I set fsb to 200mhz and left multiplier at 12.5x and upped the vcore voltage to 1.75V.
Now its running at 2500mhz / 39C idle / 49C load and it seems pretty stable.

Im wondering if I should be worried about anything at this point, its stable and all, but this is the highest frequency anyone on this forum has achieved with a 2800+ I believe. I just hope this isnt an error in Asus Probe.

    Any reassurance?

storm 666 you are right 2.5ghz must of us havent got there yet if is stable ok them what cooling are you using? and vcore? memory?.

try rinning prime 95 stress test to see if is really stable because one thing is running just windows and another is getting your cpu to full load!!

    let us know.

hello mikey welcome to the forums..
ok lets see your mobo is running on a via kt600 chipset a lot been said about via`s chipset ovecloking abilities to be not that good as nvidia`s nforce 2 chipsets. but i belive that msi corecell chip add a lots of options for overc.

170mhz x 12.5= 2.125 thats just 42 mhz from stock values (2083) it should work fine i think you need help with ur config

let us know so we can help you:
    -vcore settings
    -memory brand
    -memory timings
you have the hardware to get more out of that xp2800

    Dr.XP Thanks,

    vcore = 1.65

I tried 1.7 and 1.8, but was afraid that anything higher than 1.7 would be too hot.

    memory brand = generic 512MB PC3200 DDR

I suspect this may be a problem. So, I'm going to get some Kingston 3200.

memory timings = ?? not sure, must be set to auto.

    Thanks

ok mikey dont raise the vcore until you get the volcano 12 heatsink because vcore increase produce more heat!!.

and generic memory is not to good for overclocking and timings to high like: 8-4-4-3 things like that.

for memory let me show a few model popular among overclockers:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-144-169&depa=1

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-452&depa=1

CORSAIR IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR.

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-939&depa=1

** VIA`s chipsets only runs on single chanel not dual, but i do recomend you get two 512(256x2),or 1024(512x2) so when you change mobo you got your dual channel.

TY, I have ordered the Kingston HyperX RAM 2x512MB.
And, the Volcano 12 is on its way.

I'll let you know how the install goes, and if the temps go down.

Thanks again, This is a really great Forum!

hehe, found some instabilities with the 200x12.5, so now ive gone with 184x12.5 (1.7V) to get 2300mhz, works very stable, tested with prime95, now going to leave it overnight to see if any problems arise. Running on 36C idle / 45C full load.

PS. i have 6 case fans and good incase air circulation.
