You have cpu-z, run this and then go to the tab marked "SPD" this will tell you what pc rating, manufacture .... didn't mean any offence about your mobo, it just seems like hard work that's all

you have the same board as me!!

well i just have a question, does anyone know how i can find out what sort of barton i have? i cant unlock the multiplier, with my board, just wondering if there is a chart or somthing that will tell me if i need to do the bridge fix, or if i have no chance at all.

    cheers.

@Brapuss - from here - http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t4398.html - "If the OPN (string of letters and numbers on the first line of the sticker reads "AXDA2800DKV3D", it's a Thoroughbred-B. If it reads "AXDA2800DKV4D", it's a Barton"

    - i have a better chart somewhere online that lists all the models but can't find it. Can't remember if you can tell by running something such as 'wcpuid' or whether you have to physically look at the CPU itself..

edit- still can't find the chart i'm looking for but this will do - http://139.95.253.214/SRVS/CGI-BIN/...0000000206957248,K=2447,Sxi=18,Case=obj(2522) - soz - url is crap, add a ')' at the end, in the browser window

    - Basically the Thouroughbred 2800 has 256KB Level2 cache, the Barton has 512MB; 'cpuz' or 'wcpuid' utils will show you the cache, as i say, not sure if the utils displays the CPU code names.

edit2- found the chart that drills down and explains the 'OPN' number - http://139.95.253.214/SRVS/CGI-BIN/...0000000206957248,K=2447,Sxi=18,Case=obj(1224) - soz - url is crap, add a ')' at the end, in the browser window

    - don't know why the Thoroughbred 2800 isn't listed on there. Ah well..

@Brapuss - i don't think you can change the multiplier on any 2800 Barton's. You have to increase the FSB i think. The answer is further up the thread, can't remember exactly where..

Does anyone here have an MSI motherboard? If so, what settings did you use to overclock?

I realise this is about AMD Athlon XP2800 overclocking, but can anyone help me with overclocking a AMD Athlon XP3200 (currently running at 2.12 GHz) or direct me to the best place to find out how to go about it.

    I have an:
    Asus A7n8X-E Deluxe
    AMD Athlon XP3200 + 400FSB 512Cache Barton
Western Digital Cavier SE 80Gb 7200rpm 8mb HD
    2 Crucial 256MB DDR PC3200 400MHz
    1 Crappy MX440 Graphics Card

    Please, someone, anyone, help me.

hello guys kong1 make sure the a64 runs on a winchester core better than newcasttle or clawhammer for oc and heat! thats what i read.

brapuss thats easy man in your bios try to change the multiplier if it boots is unlock if it dont you``ll have to clear cmos jejejeje
according to amd all bartons are damn lock!! and theres no use with the old pencil trick!!.
and 2800 xp mobile thats different the run on throughtbred core 256 kb l2 cache instead of 512kb(bartons)and vcore 1.4 instead of 1.65(bartons). all you can do is raise the fsb!!

remember i told you about a friend of mine that has the same mobo i talk to him we try to overclock it and i was almost imposible to run it stable pass the 180 fsb it seems this board is not good for o`c dispite what msi says he got rid of it and got an asus a7n8x-e deluxe o`c with 195 mhz fsb.

flubba xp 3200+ is a very good and fast cpu overclocking in these case will be fun and challenge because according with many reviews theres no room for more in this maxout cpu-die 400 mhz fsb,512kb l2 cache. but still it can be done: 2.3 0r 2.4ghz.

    remeber:

1-good cooling specially cpu heat sink and fan
2-good case air flow, and a few case fan( not necesary as me i got 12)
3-thermal grease like artic silver 5 can help you cut 5-7cÂș degress.
4- remember to go for small increments both fsb and vcore until you get the higher stable config.

Dr Xp. thanks, yeah i cant get it to unlock so i guess im stuck.

i can get a 180mhz FSB out of it with stock cooling ( i have lots of air moving through my case) it reaches 59-60 degrees with prime on for half hour.

which is what it used to get to with the crappy thermal pad.

i have put it back to 166 for now, untill i get my gigabyte 3d cooler pro, i hope i get some nice gains from it.

    thanks for your help.

hi everyone.just looking for some info and advice. I have had a 2800+ barton core for a while which has an unlocked multiplier today i bought some new crucial ballistix PC4000 and at the moment it is running happily at 10x200mhz FSB also while i am running prime95 torture test. What is the best i can expect out of this with a stock cooler.under a full load with torture test it is running about 50 - 52 degrees. Can you recommend a good but quiet cooler and some settings. My hardware is
    Albartron KX18D pro2
    2800+ barton core stock cooler
    crucial ballistix PC4000 2 x 512
    AlbatronFX5900 video
    4 x 80mm case fans

hello maro42 unlock barton lucky you man!!
well mult of 10x by 200 = 2000mhz ofcourse is running stable your cpu is underclock xp2800 is clock at 2083mhz.. the beauty of having a unlock multiplier is that you dont have to do o`c by the fsb only.
so you can go for higher multiplier and lower fsb ;)

ok about the cooler quiet and cool (thats not the volcano 12 ofcourse) the best cpu cooler ever but is really loud.

the best quiet and cool here few sugg.:

    http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-7000b-cu-cpu-cooler.html

zalman fans a famous for quiet cooling

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835128001

this one i love it one of my favorite fans not to loud at max speed 4400rpm really good fan

hi again thanks for the reply Dr.xp i increased the multiplier to 10.5x and left the FSB at 200 and it detected as an athlon xp3000+. I run prime95 again and it run for 58 minutes before an error. So do i increase the vcore voltage just a little or go straight to 1.8v. The temp stayed around 54 degrees.

no, i suggest that you try higher multiplier and lower fsb
using higher fsb the core demand more power so you can increase vcore to 1.8v amd recommend not to exceed 1.85-1.9v.

but more power generates more heat so try higher mult and lower fsb.
