It doesnt change performance directly but rather it allows a heavily/moderately OCd chip to bootup and not keep randomly restarting in you (I guess you could say, it lets the chip "perforn" hehe)

Money? LOL Ive been trying to sell my soul to the devil for some extra cash :p I'd reccomend either the XP2800 if you have the money for it or the XP2500 if not. The only reason you would want the XP3200 is if you were adament on getting a 400Mhz FSB without OCing.

Let's try to stay on topic.

hey guys... i have a 2000xp was running at 1.67 i OC to 140 and i got 1.75 am running ddr 2100 at 266.. it won't let me overclock anymore unless i change my memory fsb to 333 so therefor am upgrading to 2700 and i plan to move it up to 150 to see if i can get it to about 1.8ghz...what do u guys think ?

You tried just OCing the memory to 333? It might work :)

    I have oc'ed my MSI nForce2 mobo and 1800+ to FSB150 (default 133).
What my question is why does this decrease my 3D card score? I've tried increasing my AGP bus spead, but that makes it worse (even when my fsb is 133).
I've used radlinker to oc my ATI card, which does help but my benchmark score is still not as high as when my fsb is 133.
How can I oc my CPU (and memory) without affecting my 3d card?

The key concept of OCing is that nobody can really tell you. You'vew got to play around and push the chip slowly. If it starts to get unstable, try knocking the voltages up in micro-increments at a time. There's no hard-and-fast formula for OCing -- thats what makes it fun.

Possibly because of some automated downclocking technologies in the video card (I.e., the card gets too hot, it downclocks?).

Furthermore, benchmarks are seriously overrated and often dont give an accurate description of the gaming experience (this only applies to synthetic and semi-synthetic benchmarks like SiSoft and 3DMark). Try some of the in-game benchmarks most FPSs come with and that will give a more accurate (not just that, a more useful test of your system)

I have seen 1.9Ghz but certainly not 2.0Ghz -- and that 1.Ghz tower had some very ncie cooling in it

Are you sure? We've had this discussion before I think.... the XP2000 which you originally started this thread out with doesnt OC very well whether it be a TB or a Palo. Their effectiver OC ceiling is 1.80Ghz which translates loosely to XP2200+. Your 2.1Ghz is more like a XP3100+.

It was getting a bit unstable so i decided that there really was no point.

Ok now my question my friend has a xp2200+ and his computer randomly switches of i know its getting to hot and thats the reason its switching off. i was wondering if i underclock it will it be cooler?
he oonly uses word and thats it. he aint willing to spend no money, will it reduce the temp alot

the reason why it gets unstable is because its running to hot ? or just because your pushing the proccesor way to far? whats the stable temp for overclock proc my running at 1.75 running at 40c - 41c.
