Looks like I'm getting full guide data again, yeah!

Thought I'd pass along something I learned from the MacroVision guys. I was getting channel lineup and banners last December, but no guide data. They told me that the only way that could happen is if the channel lineup was wrong. He showed me the lineup I should be using and the only difference was he said CSPAN - none and I had CSPAN - 124. I realized that without a cable box attached, the DVR can't get channel 124, which may have been why I wasn't getting guide data after the last lineup change. I'm pretty sure that that's the first time it's asked me to pick a lineup, where some of them were greater then 99 and without thinking about I selected the one with CSPAN on 124. Something to consider when picking those channel lineups.

I live a few miles down the road from you. The TVGOS signal went out on my Comcast March 17. I've reset the machine 3 times but it's just not picking up anything. Even the time doesn't set, that used to happen in about 5 minutes. Now it just flashes 12:00 unless I set it manually. There just isn't a signal on any analog host channel now.

You guys should call your host station and ask what's up. They may be shifting to a different station.

There are problems here in Connecticut with TVGOS. WNTH (Ch 8) out of New Haven (via Comcast cable) is the host - and my DMR-85H hasn't gotten updates in over two weeks. I e-mailed the TVGOS support folks and they started to investigate - finally sending an e-mail on Fri 3/20 that the problem had been corrected and that data was now passing thru the host; that I should have listings "within 24 hours". Well - still no new listings, so I e-mailed again and they're going even further up the chain to see what's going on.

Yikes, just went to insert a dvd to dud to and the door will NOT open up! First time I have encountered this. It is making a slight churning noise when it should open - like a motor is trying to work....

    Too early to call Panasonic!

    HELP

The TV Guide here in Alabama is not working either. I have Comcast and Panasonic. Comcast had no idea why and Panasonic took a bunch of information and said "a Tech will call you back in about 6 weeks." 6 WEEKS what the heck is going on that it takes 6 weeks I asked and she said it's cause of all this digital switch stuff some companies are not sending the information out correctly. So for now I have to set manual recordings this sucks.

Not getting it yet. Could you call Comcast & ask them what's up?

Calling Comcast is not likely to help. Their customer support people have probably never even heard of TVGOS. Calling Panasonic won't help, either, most likely.

What worked for me was calling the local host station and asking to speak to a broadcast engineer. They can talk to the people at Comcast who actually know what's going on. And can fix it, if you're lucky.

We had another brief outage here in the Boston burbs, then right after it came back my Panasonic spontaneously reset itself. So I had to start from scratch again. But it's back now.

Every time something like this happens, I worry--is the Panasonic starting to fail? Or is it the signal again?

How do you find your local host station?

It's the station your Panasonic tunes to when it's turned off (when the TV Guide is working, anyway). Usually I think it's a PBS affiliate, though mine recently changed to the local CBS affiliate.

The TV Guide is up and running fine here in CA.

I have a question thought about programming for recordings. If I tell the tv guide to label something as a Favorite, shouldn't it be recording it every time it comes on? This has never worked for me. It simply records the next episode and then it ignores those that follow. Does anyone know how this should work?

Meanwhile, is anyone else recording 24? My system did not record last Monday's episode and I want all of them. If you have it and can make a disk, maybe you can email me at the address below? Thanks. K

What you want to do is set it to record a program, then use the blue button to set it to record "regularly"--that way it'll record the show when it's on, and not record the time slot when it's not on.

Of course, that only works when TV Guide is working. For shows I really care about, I also set a weekly timed recording, as a backup. (But let the TVGuide program setting override it as long as the show is listed.)

I've never used Favorites, or even understood what it was.

Favorites reminds you that a show is on, that's about it.

Comcast is forcing extended basic cable users over to digital. I would think that would hit a lot of people on this forum. For the upgrade they give the customer a Pace DC50X Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) which converts the digital signal into analog.

With this, I have 2 issues:
    1. Will the TV-Guide (TVGOS) work again? Anyone have any luck with this?

    2. The DMR-E95 didn't include "Pace" in the list of supported cable boxes for using the IR-blaster. Does anyone know if there is a compatible cable box from the supported list? If I select that it is not listed it proceeds to step through each "code" and ask if the cable box changed channel.. the problem I have is that the cheap little box doesn't display a channel. The channel is displayed on the screen... and the Panasonic UI doesn't show the TV so I can tell if it is working.

According to some reviews of the DMR-E95 doesn't work with digital cable. But I figure there are a lot of smart folks on this forum... if there is a way... someone here will know how.

I was able to clone the HDD I had in my DMR-HS2 (40GB)
using a hex editor (WinHex) it shows up as a physical drive,
I cloned the whole drive to a backup file
then I was able to play the video with VLC Video player
(and cut it into shorter videos with a MPEG video cutter).

I'm extremely interested in cloning a couple of DMR-Ex5 drives--or at least extracting the files from them. I have VLC that I use with my four RTV's and a couple of DVArchive PCs.

What did you do with WinHex to get the drive image/data over to the Computer HDD?

This is just a dummy post to use up the rest of this page so that it will roll over to a new one and we don't have to keep scrolling horizontally because of the huge pictures.

I'll put in a few lines and hope it works.

After all, we are near the max at the bottom of the page.

    Let's see if this works.....

It didn't, so I'll clone it until we get to page 81....
