Info: located JUST OUTSIDE San Antonio, Texas 78154. Cable provider: Time-Warner. Cable Box: None. DVR is also a Panasonic E85H. I haven't got a U99 for 10 days now AND I have all my listings and ads are back again. I guess I might be a control for all you guys experimentation. All I have done is updated the firmware from the panny site several weeks ago (I HAVE gotten U99 since then). I have NOT reset, unplugged, gone into maintenance menu, etc. I guess I won't. Maybe I can be a valuable data point this way... I'll post right away when I get another U99. At that point I'll go into the TVG diagnostic screens and take some pics if I can figure it out.
Yesterday I had a U99 with no listings or channels. After clearing that U99 without doing a full reset, I got another U99 this morning. BUT, I got all my channels and listings back. That's the fist time in about six weeks that I got the U99 and still had listings. Usually they are blank. I had the machine on some late last night, so it may have interupted part of the download and triggered the U99. The only ads I have are the two default TV GUIDE ON SCREEN messages. I wonder if the "powers at be" can turn off all the ads for a while to see if that is the source of the errors. Oklahoma City 73034 - off air only (no cable or satellite)
I spoke with Cheryl today, and I gave her today's information from my TV Guide messages - setup screen. She said it looks that the process of downloading TV Guide data began after my last channel up/down reset; however, it was interrupted during the night with U99. I still have no channel lineup and listing at all. Cheryl also told me that they finally saw U99 on one unit Panasonic DVD reocrder with TVGOS) at Gemstar, so they will try to find out what's going on. In the meantime, she recomended me to do another channel up/down reset in the evening and let her know the status of TVGOS tomorrow.
My ads are gone again. I got another U99 this morning and the ads disappeared. I didn't lose any of the program listings that I already had though.
I am in Charlotte, NC 28075 with TimeWarner cable and no cable box. My TvGuide started giving me grief near the end of August. I have tried firmware and resets and no luck. I also called tech support and no luck. I think I am due for a new DVR unit....this isn't what I wanted to be doing every evening. I wanted to watch the shows I missed last night but I have to spend at least 1 hour per day reading forums and rebooting equipemnt .... reminds me of old satallite days Oh no their hashing the data stream with TVGuide ads. Anyone want to buy an 85H??
I emailed Cheryl and told her that my ads are gone again and that I didn't lose any of the TV listings that I already had and here is what she wrote back: Thank you for the update. I am finding that I is a pattern with others. If you don't do a reset, you probably won't get any new data over night. But even with doing the reset, if you get another U99, you still don't get any new data. We are still trying to track this problem. We did see the error on a DVR we have here. Hopefully now that we have reproduced the problem we will be able to proceed in fixing it. Cheryl
I am (one?) of the people Tim sent the firmware to. To begin with, I did a complete rest last night, and left the machine off all night and all of today. No U99 this morning, but it was there at 6 pm tonight. I turned the machine on and it went into a long long self check. Turned it off and on again, and my listings are there. I haven't tried the firmware yet because I'm not sure how to use it. The firmware I originally downloaded from Panasoninc was an executable. The fromware Tim sent was about the same size, but has a suffix of ".frm." It's not clear to me if I should rename this to an exe and what the filename should be. If I use the same filename as the Panasonic download, won't the machine react with "Unsupport" because it appears to be the same file? Jeff
OK, answering my own question. I had forgotten that I previously had to extract the Panasonic download (self extracting) and found that one of the files it extracted was named the same as the file Tim sent, minus the pdf of instructions. Just applied the upgrade Tim sent, which the 85H accepted, so we'll see.... Jeff
Orange Park, Florida 32065 E85H I've been getting U99's in the evenings but not late at night (usually) since about two weeks ago.
Oh yes, my TV Guide listing was only partially populated. TCM, AMC, and only about two or three others. I just reset everything and updated the firmware with the file that timdf sent me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. As a side note. One good thing came of this. Before I found out that the TV Guide was the problem, I hurried up and got all of the movies I recorded onto DVD's. I had been meaning to do that for quite a while. LOL :^P

One question about the TVGOS version number: this is just reset by the code mentioned earlier, NOT the chup/chdown reset, correct? If this is true, then my version of TVGOS (last reset was chup/chdown on 10/7) as of today is 07.01.26/07.06.11/00.00.00..... I think this is the "latest" one everyone has. Another question: is any TVGOS version change preceeded by the "unplug your unit for x seconds" message? Thanks! To re-state (again), last reset and U99 (above) Friday, 10/7 in the AM after flashing the firmware (both downloaded and installed) from the Panasonic website on Thursday, 10/6. Btw, it took 5 FULL nights of being in standby for me to get FULLY populated listings after the reset.
Another U99 at 6:OO PM. Channels on digital cable box switched from 02 to 99, returned back to 10, and the U99 hit the display. I turned on the unit, "Please Wait", turn the unit again, and no channel lineup or listing. I was not able to get more than channel lineup (twice) since 10/04/2005 when I bought SC-HT1500 with 80GB HDD and DVD-Recorder. I am not able to keep my unit turned off (in standby mode) for 12 hours as it was recommended for initial installation of TVGOS. I always got U99 after couple of hours. I will do another channel up/down reset tonight. Have anyone heard about updated firmware for SC-HT1500? I did not expected to have so much problems with this new recorder - I have it only 8 days!
See gang, this is what I'm talking about Anyway, Coyote, I've gone back through the posts, I've culled out 27 posters so far, all but 2 or 3 have given (somewhere in there posts) city, zip or cable company, I'll get that typed up and entered in a few minutes here, but the pattern I'm seing is a few of us here in Oklahoma/texas area, a few in the northeast (some in N.C. and GA) a few in the Chicago area (within a state or 2) a few in calif, 1 or 2 in Vegas, but nobody from anywhere like central u.s., N.D., Tenn., that could be attributable to the fact that the Panny's might not make it into the central U.S. most of what we're hearing is from major population areas. Or, it could be that the people in other areas aren't posting here cause they haven't found it yet. Not sure, but I think it's kind of coincidental that we are in sort of specific areas through the country.
Well, true, but we've covered every continental time zone EXCEPT Mountain, and we're not seeing any from the northern/central plains states north of Oklahoma and Kentucky (save Wisconsin and Illinois).
RX7 You are correct: OKC,73107, Cox analog Been getting U99's everyday. Channels OK, no listings, no ads. I wonder how [bold]timdf[/bold] is doing. We'll now have [bold]photoman2[/bold] to watch also to see if this "post" 970 firmware is an answer.
I bet alot of people are unaware of the problem with the TV Guide and are clueless of this forum. I would bet the bank that it is a bigger problem than the ones that have noted it on this board. Some people aren't technically inclined like others and have no idea where to get support from besides Panasonic and hence are getting the "Well your HDD is bad so take it in and get it serviced." or "Your PCB is bad so take it in to be serviced.". Ohh by the way, forgot to include some info earlier with my zipcode Zip-28214 City-Charlotte State-NC Cable-Time Warner Box-No Model-DMR E500
